Intake manifold questions

Hey guys I was wondering if it would be worth it to go with say a fast intake and 102 throttle body to get a few more hp and higher up in the rpm range? I currently have a stock intake with the SS1 vvt and it produced 438 rwhp at 6100 rpm but carried it to 6400 rpm. What are your thoughts on this?

I don't really know if that answers any questions for me since there using a SS4 cam. My question is if it will do anything for my combination getting me up there in the 6700 rpm range with my SS1 vvt cam.

It's not worth it IMO. With the FAST you will lose more low/mid range than you will gain on the top end. Plus, the gains that GPI shows with the SS4 is after your cam peaks currently.

Money would be better spent (and saving some $$ for other things) for a rod mod & ported intake. Are you on stock converter?

Rod mod intake from gpi would be the best bang for the buck. You send them the old one and it would cost you 1/3 the price of those other manifolds.
Only other one worth dropping money on is the lod with a 102 opening. But that combo cost a lot more for such a little gain over rod mod. Ported throttle body is also a cheap upgrade that I think is worth it. It increased my throttle response nicely.

But converters are a huge upgrade on our cars.

Converter would be a great upgrade and compliment your cam really well. My buddy had the SS1 with ported heads and then added a 258 single disc 3700 converter and it was like a whole new combo after that.

Back in my early days of modding when I had the ss1 cam and did the rod mod I felt the difference. I re-ignighted my MOD SICKNESS and made me start doing other stuff in search of that feeling.

I'm gonna think about the gpi rod mod. I know a converter is a big deal but I think I'm going to wait until my rebuild before I do that because I'm at 166k right now. lol

gotcha. Yeah, if you planning a rebuild would be better to get a converter to match the specs of that build.

Great advice here. The stock manifold with the rod mod done to it from GPI will be the way you want to go since you are staying under 7k rpm and the small cam. And as mentioned, a ported TB will help increase your throttle response a lot, as it did when mine it was the stock manifold. When you do your rebuild and want to take it to the moon in rpm, the LOD can't be beat!! Good luck.

Yes sir. So many ways you can go depending on what YOU are going to be using the car for. The stock manifold/heads just can't be beat as it is good up to and a bit beyond the 6800 rpm you want to take it to. Mine before the LOD we made 460 rwhp at 6800.
