I've been looking into doing all the things I need to do to prep my car for a track day. One of those things was to swap to DOT4 brake fluid. Looking at the fill cap, though, I see that it says only fill with DOT4. That leads me to believe that maybe the factory is already using DOT4.

Anyone know the answer?

you want to use dot4 high temp fluid motul 660 or castrol srf is the best ones

Ah ok, so while it may be DOT4, it's still not quite going to cut it on track vs a DOT4 made specifically for racing with a higher boiling point?

DOT4 only specifies minimum boiling points (446°F dry, 311°F wet). Fluids can test higher and still be DOT4, but not lower.

I couldn't find specific boiling point numbers for GM's DOT4, so in the absence of actual data you should only assume the minimums.

For track, the recommended fluid is Castrol SRF or Motul RBF 660. I've also heard good things about the Brembo fluid, but I haven't used it. SRF is preferred over Motul 660 but it is also the priciest.

Used Brembo LCF 600+ during my last couple track days and was not impressed compared to Motul660 despite the wet and dry boiling points supposed to have been a little better in the Brembo vs Motul. Pedal did not feel as firm with the Brembo.

Absolutely hated the Stoptech 660F the one time I ran it; could not wait to drain it out of the system.

Endless works great...consider that as it has good longevity and costs a little more than Motul 600 but far less than SRF.

I'm almost positive the stock fill is DOT 3. Big difference going to DOT4.

The stock fluid is DOT3 and a very average one at that. I changed to Motul DOT 5.1 and even that made some big differences compared to the stock stuff. Definitely change it out if you are heading to a track.

I am currently using Motul RBF 600, but if you track enough, Castrol SRF might make more sense to you. It will cost you a shiny penny, but the highest known wet boiling point for any brake fluid on the market right now means you can run the same stuff probably for the entire season without worrying about fade. Can save you time and money when you have to change other fluids more often. From what I have seen, SRF costs twice as much as the RBF 600, so if you have to change RBF 600 once mid-season, you are better off with the SRF and save yourself time.

With a V6 1LE, I think RBF 600 is good. RBF 660 isn't really worth it IMO.

Dunno about that - OP's picture clearly shows DOT4, and his car is two model years later than yours.

Between model years 2020 and 2021 there evidently was a running production change, as it clearly states 'DOT4' in the 2021 Owner Manual.

Well I stand corrected. The specs have definitely changed for the factory fill. On my 19, only DOT 3 is specified.

Here is some trivia: another difference between the brake fluids, I should point out, is the viscosity change if you drive your car in very cold winters. DOT 3 will have higher cold viscosity than DOT 4, which has higher cold viscosity than DOT 5.1. I didn't notice the change much in the brakes, but if you drive a stick, you can definitely feel the change in the clutch pedal. My old beater Accord definitely rebounded slower after I press the clutch in when it was below -15 C or 5 F outside. It gets quicker as I drive the car. I don't think that many of us drive the Camaro in that kind of cold, hence why I said it's trivia.

I don't plan on tracking it more than a few times a year so I probably don't need to go with the SRF quite yet. I will definitely swap out the factory fill though!

I didn't think about cold weather with the clutch - where I live we often get below 0 temps. I've definitely felt the clutch be "slow" in previous cars on extra cold days. I assume leaving the RBF600 would be ok even during winter though?
