Doesn't make it "right" though, doing it right would have been making the Part properly in the first place. Had that been done, I wouldn't be in this predicament.

An oil pump certainly shouldnt crack and throw metal shrapnel through an engine 5 years into ownership with 45k miles and a perfect maintenance record.

Since they failed to make the Oil Pump last, the way to make it right would be for them to cover at least 50% only because I did get some "usage" out of it. Even then, I'm stuck without a car for 2-4 weeks while parts come in and on-top of that, there's the possibility my engine has extra wear and tear now because of their Oil Pump failing.

My dealership offered 25%, it's possible GM may offer me a better option. I'm in contact with their "Customer Service" team now.

Ouch.... the same oil pump is used in all the 6.2 and 5.3 LT engines.

It doesn't seem to fail a lot in the SS and other vehicles, people speculate its because the LT4 Camaros are more demanding which causes stress fractures and eventually the ring inside fails and others say they DONT use the same Oil Pump. I havent done enough research about the other vehicles but one things for sure, they dont fail as often as the LT4 pumps do.

I've had them 'goodwill' a repair before on low miles vehicle, but nothing that expensive, so hard to say. Had window motor replaced in 4 yo 2000 Tahoe for $100. Instrument panel on 9 yo 2005 Avalanche also for $100. Both those were around $500 repairs. ZL1 only has 9400 miles. If pump goes after warranty I'll lobby for that. Can always try. Hopefully they do something better for you.

It's only fair, right?
It's a weak part that doesn't last as long as they should!

If it was a Belt or something that is common to fail, sure BUT an Oil Pump???? That thing typically lasts the life of a vehicle or at least 200k+ miles.

2016 SS M6 - 58k miles - just had an oil pump failure. Still in the dealer shop, going on week 2.
Reliability confidence in the car is low at this point after this incident.
The upside is that 3 months left on the extended warranty and the repair is covered.

FWIW - Been driving a long time, several different cars, American and foreign.... never had an oil pump fail until now.

Wondering what's next and if a 2021 or 2022 model SS would have the same tendency?

In case the auto manufacturers are listening...
i expect an engine oil pump system to be bullet proof, outlasting the entire engine and drive train. It is not an area to cut mfg costs save weight or fuel consumption. The highest quality indestructible materials should be used here for oiling the engine at a constant pressure.

Using an inferior design and materials for high performance oiling is senseless and irresponsible.

Anyone know how long it takes to get parts from the manufacturer?

Dealership said some of the parts are coming "Direct" which I assume means they're coming straight from the Factory/Manufacturer? They said they werent sure if id have my car back in 2 weeks. :/

We are all at the mercy of the corporations.. it’s evident now more than ever. 2 months is probably a more accurate estimate

What confuses me is that supercharged LT1s don't seem to have as many pump failures. I know the LT4 crank is more robust, which intuitively would result in fewer failures
