$7k + $12k for a 2SS with 46.5k miles, still a great value.

OP, this turned out pretty good with that ZL1 frontend, congratulations. Does everything work, no engine problems, weird electrical issues or anything?

Thanks. No issues so far, starts and runs, took it around the neighborhood. No CEL or other warnings. The engine wiring harness was a straightforward replacement but a PITA, the body wiring harness partially burned at the 3 connectors at the very end. That harness runs through the entire car and would be impractical to replace, if your could get a harness which you canít as the body harness for my 2016 was discontinued by GM.

I bought a 2018 ZL1 body harness after finding that the part of the harness I needed was very similar and would work by adding only 1 terminal and removing the ones I didnít need (mag ride, for example). I spent a lot of time studying the service manual before reconnecting any wires as several are the same color and size. Used a continuity tester and traced them until I was 100% sure before connecting them. I then spliced the harness by soldering and using heat shrink insulation on each wire. It turned out pretty clean. Re-wrapped the harness using the same harness tape and it looks OEM.

Very nice, I wish I had the talent to do all this and build my own car. I'm in my first year studying auto tech, hoping to be ASE certified in a couple years.

Well, I probably could have but I spent considerably more than that. Since there seems to be as much interest in the cost aspect as the conversion, I will share what I'm into this for. This car turned out to be in pretty good condition, so no expense was spared to restore and upgrade it. Eventually, but too late I found that a lot of $$ could have been saved by shopping around for used parts and fasteners. Also, the ZL1 conversion resulted in a lot more parts needed such as fenders, rockers, hood and scoop. My original plan was to use a 2019 and up SS hood, but my research found that wouldn't work. There are also some expensive new parts in there that you may not need or can find used such as the DRL's.

I'm pretty happy with what I got in the end and plan on keeping it a long time.

I have been watching Camaros on Copart since this purchase and I don't think getting them at the price I did was the norm. Burn vehicles probably scare off a lot of buyers. There's another SS similar to mine with front end crash damage being auctioned off in Denver tomorrow on Copart if anyone's interested in watching. You have to view the live auction, as auction results are not posted. I won't be bidding on another car for a while. This one took a lot of my time.

I just realized this weekend looking at some ZL1’s at a car show that the front auxiliary radiator ducts are not the same, even though some GM part sites show that they are. I’m going to be getting back in there to swap mine out. Also there are protective screens in front of the radiator to protect them, my SS did not have them. Here are the part numbers for the ducts and screens:

ZL1 LH aux rad front duct 84173318
ZL1 RH aux rad front duct 84173319
ZL1 radiator screens 2 required 84186093

Thatís sick! I definitely would have strayed away from it due to the burn damage but mainly because I would have thought the engine was done for. For the end price Iíd say it was worth, can barely find a decent SS for under $22k with excessive body damages off auction these days

Was able to change these out from underneath the car, you can see from the photo how much different they are. These are the right side.
