LT1 spoiler

When building a Camaro on the Chevy website, is there a reason the stanchion spoiler is not available on the LT1 coupe? The only spoilers available are the lip, blade, and wing spoilers. Now if you get an LT1 convertible, the stanchion spoiler is standard, as well on any trim convertible and both SS trims. The stanchion spoiler is available as an option for the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trims but when you add it, it changes a bunch of other options as well. I placed an order for an LT1 with the rs package so it comes with the rear lip spoiler and the dealership said they could order a stanchion spoiler for me. I’m just concerned there may be a specific reason why the LT1 coupe doesn’t come with the option to get a stanchion spoiler. Like it may cause problems when driving the car. I really do like the look of the stanchion spoiler but if it will cause problems adding it to my car, I may just stick with the lip spoiler. So any insight anybody might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As long as the dealership installs the rear spoiler correctly, there won't be any problems with the car. The spoiler just isn't an option for the LT-1, there probably isn't a really good reason, besides making the SS package more appealing.

The Blade Spoiler & High Wing Spoilers are nice options. If you wanted a stock SS spoiler, you would’ve wanted the car to not get any spoiler since your trunk lid will have like 6-7 openings across it from the RS lip spoiler. Play with the configurator and try the different spoiler options that are available and maybe you’ll like one of them.

The trunk lid on the lower trim levels (excluding the convertible and the SS 1LE) have a different trunk lid. With that said, the LT1 with the RS package has a small lip spoiler (as you know). I’m pretty much certain you can’t install a SS or Zl1 pedestal spoiler on your car… quantity and location of mounting holes are different.

Quite frankly, I really dislike the SS and ZL1 pedestal spoilers.

The good news, if you so choose to install a 1LE spoiler (after the fact) it can be done, as your trunk lid will have the appropriate holes.

I just wrapped my RS spoiler in matte black vinyl today. I think it looks awesome….

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I did look at the different spoilers and really didn’t like any of them. Also I did like rs package so I ordered that and there was no way to get the rs package without the lip spoiler option. And seeing as my car has already been built, it’s a little late to change that option. So you are saying that if they remove the lip spoiler, there would be 6-7 holes across the trunk? And seeing how the stanchion spoiler only needs 3, how would they cover up those other holes besides just installing a new trunk lid? I really don’t mind the lip spoiler, just liked the look of the stanchion spoiler a little more. So I think I’ll just keep the lip spoiler for now and see how I like it. Can always get the stanchion spoiler at a later date if I like.

I plan on doing something similar except I ordered no RS package so no spoiler at all. This way I can add my own later on without worrying about existing holes.

I was thinking of this factory-style one from CarID.com. They even offer a paint match option. Not sure if anyone has ordered these before...

Same for me. I plan to do GM's High Wing Spoiler in black, it looks classic to me.

Basically you’d have to have the holes filled and the trunk lid repainted, or find an SS trunk lid which would probably need repainted as well. Not cheap either way, there are several Aftermarket spoiler options out there as well.

This is my favorite spoiler. Gives it a more retro look plus it uses tape to mount it instead of bolts:

How reliable is the tape-only approach? I wanted to do it this way until I saw another post about side skirts flying off even with some screws...

I went for no spoiler. I was saving weight, $, and I really like the cleaner look.

A spoiler generates downforce (if it produces lift, alas, you're upside down already), so it's unlikely that a tape would be easily torn off; however, depending on the strength of the glue, it may slowly shear off backwards. I for one would not skip those bolts.
