Finally - an AWD muscle car

The good news is that there will finally be an AWD muscle car.

The bad news is that its the underpowered Challenger GT with a V6.

Car & Driver

I know I'll be taking a good look at them when they come out. The dealerships around here are sitting on a lot of RWD Challenger inventory because we're in the upper midwest and not everyone can afford to park a car during winter.

Only about 30 years late but it finally happened.

What do you think?

I always thought Dodge were onto a good thing with the AWD Charger but it was a flop and they canned it. Probably why I don't run a major Car company :-)

Seems like a great idea to me for people who live in areas that need it

Agreed. I know that a good number of people choose Subarus over muscle cars due to the fact that they need the AWD.

Other than I would have probably gotten an AWD Challenger had they been available instead of the Camaro this can be moved...

Is it still a muscle car if you can't do burnouts?

This has to be one of the weirdest cars made in recent times. I have no idea what its target demographic would be. People who want a heavy V6 car with all wheel drive that's otherwise impractical for winter driving in every other way, and which is probably useless without proper snow tires. I'm really curious if they will divulge how many they sell.

If they are going to green light projects like that, why not find a way to get permission to create the Challenger Shakedown in a limited supply? Maybe "sell" the rights to build it to a satellite company that has small enough volume to get past some NHTSA pedestrian safety regulations or have it classified as a kit car. Or maybe Donald Trump will just say "screw it" to regulations and it can be built without any loopholes required, lol.

i love how they compare it to a rwd mustang gt saying it could be fitted with winter rubber lol, given yes it can but that comparison makes no sense. This car is a subaru competitor plain and simple.

I don't think anyone's going to be cross-shopping an AWD Challenger and a Subaru any time soon.

The Charger V8, R/T, Scat Pack all are Rwd's. The charger V6 awd is good but the add on options available are limited. Wheels are horrible too, you can't even change them to black rims while building the car. Wonder if the Challenger awd will also be the same.

I know a guy with a 4 year old SS that only had 3,000 miles on it that moved to a WRX for the AWD so he could drive it year round.

Now let's add a 3500lb towing package...

and do something about that roof...

Better?

It's almost as if this was a General Automotive section.

Weird..
