Be sure to check your Mishimoto catch can.

Hey guys, if you haven't checked your Mishimoto catch can since installing it be sure to have a look at it.

Several people have noticed that the nipples that thread into the can needed to be tightened. This was the case with mine as well. They were tight when I installed it, but I guess that after a few heat cycles they loosen up.

Pull the hoses off and you'll notice that they are super loose. A 17mm box end wrench will do the trick without pulling the can out.

I had to tighten mine twice so far. I would rather not crank down on them. Just checked them today and they seem to be good.

I also found the connectors to the can to be loose. When I got the can Inwas surprised about the plastic. I wrote to Mishimoto remarking about it and never got a response. I bought a can for my wife's car at 1/3 the price and they were made out of chrome plated metal. They remain tight.

Mine have went loose twice also almost seems like some Teflon tape would of helped but I don't know about the heat with it so I just keep tightening them soon be no thread left.

I was nervous about over tightening mine when I installed it. When I went to empty it after around 1000 miles, the plastic nipples were very loose. I cranked them down until the threads are hidden this time.

Ditto, it didn't seem like they wanted to go all the way in the can when I first installed, now they're tightened down all the way to the hilt against the can....

Tightening them twice seems to have done the trick.

Thanks tech turtle!
I check mine and it's loose as well. I wonder why mishimoto put a plastic not alloy nipple on this.

Perhaps the plastic on metal connection in a system under vacuum is less likely to leak oil than a metal on metal connection? The plastic could act as a better "gasket" if you will?

Just my guess. Otherwise.....cost savings....

You got me wondering now. I noticed a strange sound coming from the area of the catch can and now wonder if it might be losing vacuum at the nipples. I am away from my car on vacation for a week, but gonna check it as soon as I get home.

Contacted Mishimoto about the issue. They said it was ok to use teflon tape and if that did not work, use oil compatible thread locker

Thanks!. I'll do that if needed, as I am now threaded in as far as the fitting will go.
