So I'm still trying to learn about E85 and if I would want to go this route. I know if I get it I will need to get a tune for is as well. The issue is there aren't many e85 stations near me. so I guess my question is, if I switch to e85 (and get a tune for it) what happens if I fill up with reg 91 oct (93 not available here)? If i do fill up with reg 91, and 1 day put e85 in (to whatever % im tuned for), how long till the car/ecu recognized it?



I guess my issue is, as much as I want to go to a certain performance level to where E85 will be needed, idk if its worth the hassle of getting 3-4 5 gal gas cans of E85 and have to always mix it.

You will need the sensor installed and a custom tune. You will be able to still run 93 or E85 or any mix in between. The sensor and tune take care of it. There is no mixing on your part. You can be a 3/4 tank of 93 and end up topping it off with E, it doesn't matter. It just won't make the most power unless you've been on straight E for a while.

I was curious about this too. I assumed that was the way it worked as that's how it works on other cars, but wasn't sure since it didn't come stock with flexfuel capablity.

I was going to ask a question about compatibility with the rest of the fuel system as I just found out, my understanding of E85 being corrosive and incompatible with some fuel systems was not necessarily true.

Oh ok. Thanks for the info. I just wasn't sure if the car would even still run right if I didn't put e85 in and if I just ran reg gas. But if will still run but just not at the level of my tune with E85, then thats not as bad.

The Flex fuel sensor reads the amount of Ethanol in the fuel and reports it to the ECU which adjust's the Stoich AFR and timing for optimal combustion. So you can mix it or switch back and fourth between E & Pump 91-93...the ECU will adjust the tune instantly to compensate soon as it sees the change in Ethanol percentage.

I dont presume that it's overlooked here but just saying, the tune will void your powertrain warranty.

Here's my old Honda car I think I been running e85 about 8 years. I ran 30% for about 3 before that. Min. ethanol content here is E70.


I got another one Ill post of the stock 30 year old 335k mile fuel pump I pulled out. it still runs 40 psi just wont hold fuel pressure after its shut off.
