2013 ZL1 vs 2013 2ss 1LE

Casual sunny day driver (secondary car) of my current 2013 2ss/rs 1le. I bought the car from the original owner with 12,600 miles. It has MOST every option. I have found a decent deal on a 2013 ZL1 with similar specs. 1 owner but, has 51,000 miles. I would net a $10,000 increase out of pocket. Is it worth it? What would you do?

I don't track or drag but, occasional "roll on" pulls for the rush. Would I be better to put a little $ into the 1LE like headers, cai and a tune and keep what I have or...? **edit** I do realize I won't match zl1 power. I'm asking myself, "is there $10k more fun in a zl1..."

Would love your thoughts!

It is easier to get more power out of a Z as it already is supercharged. Many people have 700whp around here with cam, headers, cai, pulley, e85. This is harder to get to this point on an ss.

The much more attractive front clip makes it worth the swap.

One of my Camaro buds just did this. He sold his 2014 SS/RS mint condition and bought a 2013 black ZL1 for 10k more than what he got for his SS. If it were me and I had 10k to spare, yea I think I would do it, only if the Z was well cared for though. The one he bought was heavily modded and has problems with it ever since. And his SS was very nice and well cared for. Then again, you could cam your car/FI, and all the goodies that go with a swap and have a ton of fun with it and lots of enjoyment knowing that it is YOUR car and taken care of, AND you can get pretty close to what a stock Z puts out for HP. And do it for less than the 10k you would be spending for the Z..

^This

I’m putting as much or more into my SS then if I sold it and started over with a ZL1, but it’s mine and I have a soft spot for the SS logos as it recalls my youth. Do what YOU want and makes you happy.

I would go with the car that I like the most. Its tough giving up a good car, but desire does weird things to you. Make sure your choice is in top shape.

Having been in both on a race track I'll say this... the 1LE handles better around corners as it's more balanced. The ZL1 is front end heavy so you end up push through the corners. You get to burn through front end tires more this way. The straights are dominated by the ZL1 due to the SC and just more power. So if you like small race tracks and more balanced driving the 1LE is still the best pound for pound race car for the money. The Zl1 is just amazing and has way more curb appeal and way more head room to make additional power over stock with even some simple bolts on's.

You have to learn how to drive it sideways to unleash the beast and let the tires warm up first.

I have a ZL1 and really like the car. that being said, you are probably better off with what you have. Unless you know the owner of the ZL1 and his driving habits 51,000 miles can be awful hard on a car that gets run hard. For 10K you can make up the difference in HP and then some with 38,000 less miles.

What’s most amazing about your question is that you came to the ZL1 forum and asked owners of ZL1’s would you buy one
