Yup. Camaro, Mustang and Challenger consistently make Edmunds best retained value list.
Cars depreciate. They are a poor investment.

I too don't buy a car as an investment, I purchase to enjoy and drive till I want another one. As you can see, I haven't found a better option for my DD truck. But upgrading my 5th gen to a 2017 ZL1 has me "wanting" again. |

I'm always amused when folks compare things like Chevrolet depreciation to Porsche depreciation. The resale value holds better on Porsche simply because of the name plate, which of course, has it's own premium at time of purchase. What I mean is that the entry to fee to Porsche Land is about double of a ticket to ride in a Corvette and a little more for the Camaro. Two cars, that in terms of performance are very close, if not better in some respects than the Porsche. But even at that, asking prices for a 4 year old Corvette or Camaro is still above the 50% mark, on average.
Buying new comes with some advantages. Full warranty, no previous "mistakes", options for buy back and lemons that are by far more difficult on a used car. Of course, more selection on options and colors, and even the opportunity to order built to suit. But if depreciation is a real issue, then simply wait for a 2016 to show up on the used lot. You'll still have the remainder of the warranty, and the break in will be done already. It may not have everything you wanted, or may not be your first color choice, yada, yada, however, a big chunk of the depreciation has already been paid. However, I don't think the new car promotions and incentives really effect the used car market that much. They really are two different worlds. The new car is based on MSRP. Year end sales are just a part of the business. The used car market is based on what people will pay and is mostly supply and demand. I base a lot of this on watching the average market for the generation change for the Corvette. The market for C6 Corvettes didn't, and still hasn't really changed much. I'm seeing the same thing for the Camaro, however, they haven't really incentivized it yet. |

I just bought a left over 16 2SS with a 16% bonus tag, so I'm happy!

I would go with a discounted '16. If it had the features and options in it that I would want,
why miss out on the low price?...Plus, they are a carbon copy of the '17s....Why pay more for the next year's model that is identical? If you're in the market for a new 6thGen, get your best price on a discounted '16. Good luck. |

Do you know if only certain '16s have the Bonus Tag? I can't find anything on Chevy.com about it.

I only heard about it because Becky mentioned it in her September Incentives thread.

I'm looking to buy and 3 dealers have identified the specific units that qualify for the 16%. it is only a certain % of vehicles and i was told that had to designate which units at the start of the promo.

I know someone who is a sales manager for a Chevy dealer and he told me that's exactly how last month's Bonus Tag sale worked. The manager would designate which ones are the promos for that month. However those were advertised on Chevy.com and in many cases the dealer's own site as well. I wasn't sure if this was the same scenario because nothing is advertised. Thanks for the info! I looked at the car I bought on August 30th and told them to call me if they got a bonus tag. He called me on September 1st and said he had 3 16% bonus tags that were good on Camaros or Corvettes, when I picked up the car on the 3rd they were all gone. I was the last one. He told me they wouldn't last a week. I also got my GM card earnings plus $750 extra on the GM card. I received a flyer in the mail with the extra $750 which is only good for September/October. I am happy with the deal I got and the car is equipped like I wanted.
