Who cannot drive stick?

In a post someone illuded to the thought that people drive auto because they cannot drive stick. It honestly never crossed my mind that someone with a camaro on a post fourm wouldn't be able to drive stick. That and a hilarious shirt I saw lead me to wanting to ask this...who cannot drive stick?
Not looking down or belittling, just curious.

I think most can. I drove manuals for 20 yrs before i got sick of it. It's still more fun than auto of course. I just don't want to have always clutch in. If I get an SS, will probably be an auto. Just tired of shifting all the time.

I know the semantics of how it works, what you're supposed to do etc.; but I've never actually done it-- so I guess you'd count me in the "I don't know" crowd.

I don't know either. Parents have always owned automatic vehicles, driver's ed. car was an automatic, and my '83 Grand Prix, '07 Impala SS, '11 Camaro 2LT, and now '16 Camaro SS are all automatic. I understand how it's done, I just never experienced it in a vehicle. I had a little enduro 80cc bike for a short while, so I can drive a motorcycle, just never a car.

My dad drove sticks for years and loves them. When I was a kid, I remember his cars being sticks. He developed a knee injury as he got older, so he can't really drive them anymore. But when it was my turn to learn to drive, we only had automatics around.

I learned on a XR and they YZ. IMO the YZ was harder than any car I've encountered.

I know. I first learned manual in an old Peterbilt with a 10 speed unsynchronised tranny... The transition to a 6 speed car that doesnt require double clutching for shifting was very awkward for me. So i technically got my camaro without knowing how to drive a manual car, but i learned.

I learned stick on a 1978 Ford 9000 10 speed non-synchro just like you Tech9cian

Stepdad worked for May Company (precursor to Kaufman's/Dillard's/Macy's) driving the distribution truck for greater Cleveland to and from the main warehouse to all the regional stores for 38 years and taught me to drive the truck on his lunch hour when I was 13.

Yeah probably would have cost him his job if someone found out or I wrecked or broke something, but as he says now, you can drive anything with wheels so it was worth it.

You can't text and drink a beer if you have to shift all the time.

J/K - I drove manual trans cars and trucks for years. Last few have been auto. I really like the A8. You can be lazy or put it in manual mode and do the shifting yourself. Not the same, but acceptable.

I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

What scares the living crap out of me is people drinking, eating a footlong sub, shaving, listening to their head phones, texting, and playing Doom on their infotainment screen while merging onto the interstate in the middle of rush hour during a blizzard.

I don't exaggerate. Much.

I learned on a 3 speed on the column AMC Hornet Wagon...in the back parking lot of the dealership where I bought the car.
I would drive a stick again, but I love that remote start option.

I was engaged to a professional drag racer, drove stick, she is now in jail. I guess she is a keeper for the state of California; just not me.
