Parking brake behavior

I have a driveway that has an incline. I have been using the parking brake on my previous vehicles in order to not put strain on the automatic transmission. I usually engage the parking brake with my foot on the brake pedal after I put the car in park. Usually the car does not move after I engage the parking brake and lift my foot off of the brake pedal.

I have noticed on my A8 2SS that the car moves after I engage the parking brake and lift my foot off of the brake pedal. Has anyone else noticed this? I know the parking brake engages because I hear them engage when I have my door open. I worry that the car is putting strain on the transmission.

I don't even have my foot on the brake when I engage the parking brake.

There's simply nothing in the tranny you can damage by being on a hill from what I can tell. According to the article, the moving is the park pin lining up into a groove on the output shaft.

How long do you want after pulling the switch to lifting your foot off of the brake pedal?

This is a good question, I noticed on mine it takes a sec to engage and the break pedal goes down while it's engaging.

I went to my daughters this weekend and used mine for the first time. I engage mine while its still in gear and then into park. No problems.

I have waited until the end of the noise of the brake engaging. I never have timed it.

I will try engaging the parking brake while in gear to see if I see a difference.
