Advice needed. Big screw up
Tightening my oil cap with a wrench and this happened. Bolt broke off. Any ideas on how to free the part stuck in the hole?

Oh Jesus i got it. That little metal piece that’s sticking off the plug was just big enough for me to spin it out with an Allen key. Huge relief thanks for the help

Glad you got it out.
I am honestly shocked the bolt broke in half before you just destroyed all the threads in the pan, being aluminum and all. The torque is quite low on that bolt (18 ft-lbs I believe), you must have been really going at it or the bolt was defective in some way. |

Good job getting it out.
Air impacts and electric drills are for taking bolts OFF. Never use these to put them on unless the owners manual calls for it. Like others have said, you may have bent the threads. Get a new drain bolt and crush washer check it every day so see if its slightly leaking. If so so you just need a new oil pan, dirt job but very easy if u get the gasket and don't over torque any bolts lol. |
