Changed tires on new 1LE - tire shop scraped / scratched barrels - should I be upset?
Swapped out the OEM Goodyears Supercar 3 tires for Continental DWS 06+ tires on my new 2022 Camaro 1LE.
The tire shop used a scraper and gouged out the old wheel weights and took the paint off with it on the barrels. The barrels especially towards the spoke area are super visible on this car. Which color touch up paint should I be using on these wheels?

I had a local firestone do this to my hellcat when I had it. Made them replace every single wheel. There is no excuse to pry off factory weights with a screw driver. Stupid ass oil change monkeys.

Yea, I’d be pissed. It’s clear that your car is new / taken car of, you just bought expensive tires, and they give you your wheels back like that?
Don’t mind the red look of the paint is pic, it’s not shaken up. Its a good match to 1LE wheels. |

I've been told by at least three tire shops that they didn't have correct equipment to change tires on 19"+ wheels
Amazing to me because so many cars come standard with 20" wheels "We can do it but just don't be mad if we scratch up your wheels"

I've at times wondered why they leave the adhesive residue on my wheels and then I think of things like this and I'm glad that they leave it and don't just scrape it away. For the most part like 99% my wheels have been well taken care of but the way I swap summer and winter tires something is bound to happen.

I started using a plastic razor blade to remove the wheel weights myself while waiting at the tire shop or before driving over there to avoid crap like this and I started taking before pictures of my wheels at the tire shop and asking them to be careful not to damage the wheels. The adhesive from the old wheel weights can take a very excessive amount of time to remove properly. I typically use Mother's R3 with the plastic razor blade and/or a heat gun. It gets even worse if you leave the adhesive on there for a while...not recommend.
Unfortunately it is common across different tire shops and many techs don't care that they're damaging the finish on your wheels. You should ask the tire shop to pay to refinish the wheels or refund you what they charged and post a negative review to warn others if they don't cooperate. Touch up paint will likely still look a bit off because it is very hard to get it flush with the surface of the wheel so it is only filling the scratches without being raised above the height of the original paint in a blob but my wheel barrels have lots of touch up paint slathered on them from a pen applicator because I didn't want to pay to have them fully refinished when they would likely just keep getting scratched in the future. |

I used the 1/2 oz. Basecoat Paint Pen from here but the color match was very slightly off in direct sunlight if you looked closely. Maybe it was due to this: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=16

Thanks, I provide my own black wheel weights which have the highest rated adhesive that I could find to reduce the chance of them coming off when the wheels get very hot at track days but it is harder to remove than the adhesive on standard cheaper wheel weights which might require aluminum foil tape on top of them to stay on at a track day.
Perfect Equipment 3 Ounce Wheel Weight PWT 200576FEBLK https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...576FEBLK&pos=0 I have also caught wheel weights being applied crooked several times where some of the adhesive was on the raised lip on the outside edge of the wheel by the spokes. I removed and reapplied them to prevent them from coming off while on track. |

they would be buying me new wheels. Thats unacceptable to damage a customer wheel like that. If they cant do it right they should not accept the job
