Wheel HP an Mods to run 6.50 1/8 mile?
My Stock 2023 ZL1 A10 runs 7.3x to 7.4x in the 1/8 mile with 17" M/T Street R drag tires and 11.4x in the 1/4 mile (124 mph) in OK air (2300 DA). Main purpose for the car (racing) will be 1/8th mile.
I've been contemplating the various Mod's to get the car to run mid 6's (1/8th mile) while keeping the car 100% street-able. Street traction is really a non-issue since the car will only see track time when raced. It seems the car in its stock form is severely limited in the 60' and 330' and then comes on strong after that. When I do the math on my Stock time slip (zero-wheel spin), 60' being 1.8x and MPH being 99+ (1/8 mile) the car is showing correct HP by MPH and severely lacking in ET (due to the slow 60 ft). Reading through the forum I see that part of the issue may be due to the torque management in the TCM, and probably due to the fact that a SC engine makes most of its power at high RPM (I Queston the latter). So, my thought is, 1st step, get the car to 60-foot, then work on HP? I.E. get the car to work before throwing HP at it? With that in mind, I'd love to hear from the knowledgeable folks on this forum to get their recommendations on how to get to 6.5x ET in the 1/8 mile with the least amount of modification. Thanks in advance for your comments! |

You are correct that the car is being held back by the computer. Torque limits in the TCM are a big reason that the car is not launching like it should on the DRs. Check out this test

From what I gathered from the video, he only had the Flex fuel sensor running E60, CAI, Drag tires/wheels and removed seats. Just looking at 1/8 ET in that video, he went from 1.637 60ft to 1.50, and 1/8-mile ET from 6.94 to 6.68 after the TCM tune, that's almost 3 10ths in the 1/8. Gleaning through his other video's I see he had a dyno vid where I think he was making 600 whp at the time. I won't be removing any seats so I'm going to need a little more HP to get to my 6.50 1/8-mile goal. I guess my question is, can I get to 650 whp with these mods and possibly a ported TB and SC and maintain E60? I really don't want to get into the motor or add headers. I think 650 whp and TCM tune will get me to my goal. Last edited by gatewayracer; 10-26-2023 at 10:33 PM. |

Before you do anything, I would look into getting the trans tune done. GM really overprotected the M6/A10 trans in terms of launching the car. There's several posts/threads about it.
Trans tune would really help launches/early shifts..

Oh wow, Odessa MO is about 900 ft. above sea level! Typical Missouri weather during racing season is 3000ft DA +or-. you can catch some 1000 ft DA early spring or late fall but.
I need my car to run 6.50 1/8 mile at 3000 DA. (for the index class I plan to run in). |

Using math on my timeslip pretty much proves it in my mind. My WHP using ET = 450, My WHP using MPH =550. When a car works at the track, those calculations should be very close, which they are not. |

X port
103tb Big Gulp Headers low side(JMS works for this combo) E50 That should get you 6.5's on that tire in average air. I wouldn't base anything on what Jorge did in that video. The weather was like 0-400 DA with 70 degree weather at a sea level track. It doesn't get any better for traction and power. In order to get zero to slightly positive DA up my way the temp is normally 45 and then it gets a lot harder to hook. So on average you're going to need Full Bolt-ons and TCM tune to run what Jorge did with 3 mods in those conditions.

Since I'm only 30 minutes from DSX Tuning, I was thinking about having them do the install and tune. My understanding is that they will only tune it if they do the build (which I totally understand). I'm guessing they would only use their aux pump in place of the JMS booster but I'm not really sure I want a hole drilled in my tank lol. I'll have to see what they say. |
