2016 Camaro 2LT RS broken tail light

I have a 2016 Camaro 2LT RS that when I was washing last week I noticed part or the tail light had broken (see picture). The service advisor at the dealership argued that it wasn't covered. They want $462 to repair it ($390 something for the part and rest for labor). From the shape of it, and a lack of any dents/scratches in the area I find it hard to believe that anything hit it and caused it.

Anyone else see something like this type of break and have it covered under warranty?

Interesting, the shape of the hole is a near perfect arc, as if someone had tried to break into your taillight with a glass cutter and steal the... what, exactly? :P

More seriously, I'm not sure about warranty coverage, but in case the dealership doesn't budge, you will very likely be able to get a replacement from the dark taillight upgrade crowd at a much-much lower cost.

Thanks for the reply arpad_m. I already had them replace the tail light before I saw your message. Now I'll have an alternative if something like this comes up in the future. The dark taillight looks like a nice looking option for the future.

If someone else mentions they had something similar happen, and it was covered under warranty then I'll contact Chevy in some form, and see if they would reimburse me in some way. Its extremely disappointing that something that is no fault of the driver, and doesn't seem like an outside agent (another car hitting, or someone vandalizing) is such a high price to replace / repair .

If there is a history of this type of breakage with other's cars and someone mentions it here at least others who have it happen will have something to back them up. At least thanks to your post they will have an alternative they can consider before resorting to have an expensive dealership replacement like I did before knowing better.

Aww man, so sorry I didn't respond in time before you okayed the repair. Just thought of something, though: did you purchase extended warranty for the car, GM or third party? If yes and you read the fine print, the damage might be covered under that. Dealers typically push these warranties with every deal.

Finally, next time something like this happens and it isn't life or death urgent, you'll be much better off ordering the part yourself. This taillight can be had new for $240+shipping, here is an example source: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...YtMmwtdjgtZ2Fz. The dealership should be more than willing to use the part if you want them to install it, although in many cases the install is easy to DIY, and youtube is full of videos to help.
