how accurate is the Engine Oil Life System?

I decided to follow the engine oil life system and change my oil. I last changed my oil October 2022 at 4400 miles and today, October 2023 I changed it at 9300 miles, as the Engine Oil Life System indicated 2% oil life left.

The oil on the dipstick looked fresh, however when I emptied the oil pan it came out black and looked to be well used.

I am using Mobil 0w40 ESP x 3 Dexos 2 oil with a PF64 filter on my 2022 SS 1LE.

The Engine Oil Life System according to the manual computes oil life based on mileage driven, engine revolutions and engine temperature. Are there any other factors that this system uses?

After how many miles are you guys changing the LT1 motor oil if you are driving the vehicle relatively easy and not too hard?

It also uses time, if you changed your oil today and parked the car until next Oct 4, your Oil Life Monitor would read 0% Oil Life Remaining...

I would definitely change my oil a bit more than you are, I go 3,000 miles max or 10 months, whichever comes first (for me it is always the 10 months as I only drive about 2,500 miles per year)...

If you are tracking the car at all then you need to change it even more often than that... Oil is relatively cheap, the LT1 Engine (and components) in your $50,000+ 1LE are not...

Change your Rear Differential fluid as well, it is super easy...

I sent two 0W-40 Dexos2 used oil samples to Blackstone Labs from my SS 1LE (manual transmission) and they said I could go longer than 7k miles (with 10 track hours) in 2021 and longer than 5k miles (with 18 track hours) in 2023. More heat would probably be generated by the automatic transmission and especially by the ZL1's supercharger degrading the oil faster but that is my experience.

The oil life monitor was at 4% on the 7k mile oil change sample so I would say that it might be overly conservative but for warranty purposes I would recommend following it to cover yourself in case you end up needing engine warranty work like I did last year (failed lifter requiring replacement of a lot of internal engine parts and a head). In my case they didn't ask for oil change records but it was good peace of mind that I had them available.

I would think a 10qt oil capacity in these cars would be able to go longer than the older LS motors with 5-6qt capacities but I suppose it's different now with DI vs PI. I used to do 3k on my LS cars with 5-6qt but I know for a fact I could have gone longer.
That's good info you guys have with Blackstone samples

i have about 3400 miles on my SS driving mostly city, the oil has about 2700 miles with 29% oil life. That puts me on track for 1yr/3500 mile oil changes, which is pretty conservative. I would go by it, GM patented the algorithm for it.
