2020 1LE Rear Gear Change - 3.73 to 3.90
Just got my 2020 1LE back from Hennessey (HPE850) and its obvious that it needs more rear gear, e.g., 390 or 410 or etc. for short distance (1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or one mile) fun.
I don't see any threads or posts on people going to more gear. Is it covered here and I'm just missing it or what? Thanks. |

I don't think a 3.90 is available. I've only seen people getting hotter rear ratios by swapping in an entire rear diff from a different Camaro trim/trans, like putting the manual diff on an automatic car.

Although, and unlike the regular SS, the ring gear is able to be separated from the differential carrier, there are not any ratios available outside OEM options.
The ATS-V, CTS-V, ZL1/1LE and SS 1LE share the same basic rear differential. Ratios are either 3.73 (manual trans) or 2.85 (automatic trans). |

Bummer, I didn't ask when I ordered because I naturally assumed that ring/pinion changes could be made. More gear would really perk this thing up.

Your car is a 2020 model ZL1/1LE with the 10-speed auto, correct? My guess on why you think you need steeper gears is that the transmission is not tuned. Cannot tune 2020 model, and with a ZL1 the trans tune seems to be the key, owners keep complaining about too much torque management. So mechanically, you have a 4.70 first gear and a 2.85 differential, meaning plenty of torque multiplication. But the computer is not giving you all of the torque that the engine can produce, so it is not as quick as it should be.
