Oil recommendations

So i'm around 650-700whp. I'm looking for an engine builders input here. What oil weight would be recommended. SBE, mods in signature. I was thinking a 5w-40 rotella i know it's a diesel oil but i have no cats so the extra zinc shouldn't hurt. Or a 10w-30? 10w-40 even? Just not sure if the weight should be changed much when pushing this kinda power.

Wouldn't the weight recommended be based more of the clearances inside the engine more than power levels?

From what I've gathered Increased stress on the internals can require a more viscous oil. That in turn also creates a bit more pressure to fight the stress and movement so hard parts don't contact bearings.

Even making 650 or 700 rwhp I still would use 5w30 Amsoil Signature Series. I recommend staying with the OEM recommended viscosity 5w30, GM engineers got it figured out with clearances and oil passages what will protect, work and flow best. According to Amsoil the XL is great but does not provide as good of wear protection as the Signature Series in any way, the XL does cost less. As GTStorey mentioned above the power does not matter as much as bearing clearances, oil passages, assuming at this horsepower level this is a stock engine with increased boost, headers and possibly a Heat Exchanger.

I use Amsoil for everything and have for years. They make it in Duluth, MN about 50 miles from where I live. Great products.
