Camaro ZL1 1LE wins FIRST PLACE in C&D Comparison. Congrats!!!

Congratulations to our successor brother Camaro; the ZL1, 1LE, (6th gen), for winning FIRST PLACE in a 3-way comparison test against two other stout opponents! BAM!

The March 2020 issue of Car & Driver (page 36) pitted the 2019 Camaro ZL1 against the new Mustang Shelby GT500 and the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.

"1st Place: The Chevrolet"

It's always awesome to read that!!!
The combined horsepower of the cars was 2,207, and the Camaro was in there giving its all, scrappin' it out....

The ZL1 was the LEAST expensive by $17,000 and made 110 less hp than the next most powerful......and it wins first place. It carried the lowest vehicle weight, the highest skidpad grip (1.17g!), quickest 0-60, best braking (by far), and the best Front/Rear weight distribution.

The test included flogging the cars around Willow Springs Raceway where C&D gave special mention to the Camaro's electronically controlled limited-slip differential and a "spot-on" transmission.
"Finest handling," "best chassis," "great precision," and "most rewarding" are praises thrown at the ZL1. Awesomeness.

I read the tests old school using the magazine, but you can also read it here:
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...-car-showdown/

Awesome job Chevrolet and GM!!! Please keep building the Camaro line!

That is awesome, it really is such an amazing car. To be honest, I would personally like one of each of those in my driveway.

Too bad they can’t seem to hardly sell a damn one of them. They are a truly remarkable car and I believe definitely the best of those three cars.

Time to put a 7th gen body on...

That ZL1 1LE can out-perform some supercars. But it doesn't sell because, well.......

65k for a 2020 ZL1.
How many gen5s can i buy for that money?
And even Car and Driver admits the body style isn't up to the 'stang.

Ohh I can only imagine... horsepower is only one part of the equation and in my opinion, performance wise, horsepower is all the challenger has. The GT500 has come a long way in the last few years, I’ll give credit where it is due. But at the end of the day this is GM’s wheel house, taking lower priced cars and killing the competition with them. The vettes have been doing this for a long long time now. GM has really done a nice job on the performance side of both the 5th and definitely the 6th gen. The 5th 1LE, ZLE and especially the Z/28 nailed this concept nearly perfect as have the 6th 1LE and ZLE.

Frustrating that the 6th gen is such a widely acclaimed performance car that just doesn’t do it for me (or apparently many others) in terms of appearance. My 5th gen still causes me to look twice because it’s such a beautiful car. Even though the 6th gen body style is often referred to a a tweak or minor change, it just doesn’t evoke the aesthetic response of the 5th gen. Hate to see the Camaro die off again. Sigh...
