I see this thing matching the Hellcat in the 1/4 mile. Considering that's the Hellcats claim to fame and it won't compete in other performance categories, but the Zl1 will - that's impressive.

It will be faster than a GT350R on a track and faster than a Hellcat at the strip. That's no small feat.

great news; thatīs the perfect weapon against all our fast Turbo rats on autobahn ;-)
hopefully it will have less heat soak problems as the Z06 today.
chevy needs to bore another inlet valve and increase the diameter of the exhaust valve for more free/easy breathing and better efficiency with less heat !
the 2 inlet valves could be driven with a titan pushrod and one wider titan rockerarm pushing both valves. Should worth to consider such a developing instead of complete new DOHC design ?

The Gen 5 1le does 1.03g and 0-60 in 4.3sec...base price was mid $30k.... That 1LE package was $3500... $10k more for 0.1sec 0-60? What a deal!?...wait! Thats slower than the regular SS...ahahahahah

How convenient that the zl1 lands right between the z06 and z51 0-60mph. For $62k....competitor to the grand sport more than the z...with the 10 speed and 640hp??

And the rhumored zr1 will have the zl1s transmission as part of the $100k new price tag. On the zr1, it will improve on the z06's times but on the zl1, it beats the z51 better than it approaches the z06...numbers dont lie...oh, and NOT faster than a hellcat at the drag.

I expected more from both variants.

Flame suit.

Certainly didn't stop the 2016 SS from equaling the BMW M4 in all areas that mattered for 20K less.

Sometimes, less is still more.

You're entirely too focused on one piece of an engine. My comment was a holistic one of sometimes you can get more for less by not wasting time/money on things that don't equate to more performance than could be made up for in other areas.

You go ahead and wait 2 years for that.

Funny all the GM sites still have the ZL1 at 640hp

Will it? Even in manual form it's 200 pounds heavier the the GT350R and lacks the wheels/tires and RPM's that car has. I'm rooting for the ZL1, but I'm thinking the head-to-head might not come out in its favor.
