Crushed my rocker panel using ZL1addons jack pad [UPDATED]

So, I just received my camaro jack pad with mag puck and the rock guards. To install the rear rock guards, I had to lift the rear wheels. I placed the jack pad on the pinch weld with the mag puck underneath. I was on level ground, the jack pad seemed to be in the correct position. After about 5 cranks on the lever, the jack pad rolled off the pinch weld and the jack slipped outwards onto the underside of the rocker, crushing it!

I'm a little confused--the groove in the jack pad is much wider than the pinch weld, and it very clearly rocks back and forth while adhered to the pinch weld.

Here is a pic from under the rocker panel.

I already contacted ZL1addons, and am awaiting their response. I just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.

Is this the new style pad with the screws or the older one without.
The old one was a faulty design which could roll off, mine has done it before but no damage.

Part of the problem will always be the arc of a floor jack when it lifts. If the jack doesnt roll forward as it lifts it tends to pull outboard.

Wow, never had that problem? Maybe it was the jack stand just like BradfordCamaro mentions

I had something similar happen because of the jack not rolling forward. I've learned since then to check to make sure the puck doesn't start to lean with each pump of the jack. Mine occurred with a generic pinch weld adapter.

Does it even matter if you bend over the pinch welds down there? Does that cause any structural integrity loss? Because as far as I can tell, if you just jack it up on the pinch weld, it eventually bends and flattens out a bit.

From watching the ZL1addons instructional video, when you have the car on the jack the edge of the pinch weld is supposed to rest on the bottom of the groove of your adapter or puck - that is what supports its weight. The metal on the car that is on either side of the pinch weld is not supposed to be supporting the car.

I guess what I'm asking is, what will happen if I just continually use my jack directly on the pinch weld. Because I've not ever seen a thread or pictures documenting any damage beyond the pinch weld being bent over on itself slightly. I know it seems bad to do that, but is there any direct evidence that this process compromises structural integrity?
It just seems odd to me that they would build a car knowing it is going to be jacked up, and worked on by enthusiasts at home fairly frequently, and put pinch welds on it that are not structurally sound and require aftermarket parts in order to jack up the car. It just doesn't make sense. So my thoughts are, that its probably sturdy enough to just be jacked on the pinch weld and its not as big a deal as people make it out to be.
And not only that, my jack happens to have a fairly small cup and fits on the rear jack point pinch weld. But larger, sturdier floor jacks have larger cups or plates, and certainly would not be able to hit the pinch weld without hitting other structures like the rocker panel. So they would HAVE to buy aftermarket items just to jack the car.
I just don't get it.
What do people do who aren't car enthusiasts and know their vehicles to the extent we do? All the people out there with base 4's and 6's, what if they break down and have to jack their car on the side of the road? It seems like they run a good chance of destroying something and creating a warranty claim. Why would GM not put a sturdy, from-the-factory area to place a jack??

Been using mine for 6 months and never had any hint of an issue. Even forgot it was on there and drove to the track and it didn't come off.

This is my solution to the sketchy jacking of the Gen6 Camaro:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/HyperToug...-Jack/33348135

The head is small enough to fit up in the body and it has grooves to locate on the pinch weld.

I just have a cheap Amazon sourced jack pad with a hockey puck glued to the bottom of it and I've jacked the car up several times with no issues so far. Not a mark on the frame rails. But I've always checked very carefully that it's positioned properly, and I make sure my jack is perpendicular to the car so there will be no resistance to rolling.

Maybe a stone wedged under one of the jack wheels?

Strongly recommend you get the bolt on lift points.
