The perception exists because not only does just adding the spoiler do nothing to balance out the added downforce (hmm, wonder what those dive planes are for on the ZLE?) but also the car doesn't make the power to take advantage of it properly. It will actually make the car slower by creating more drag and unbalance the chassis by providing more downforce without balance.
