I know I posted a poll on the ZL1 sub section, but wanted to get less biased results to see how many are considering a Z/28 over a ZL1. Plus, there hasn't been much to talk recently, and we're all losing our minds waiting for someone to say anything at this point.

So what will it be and why?

Also, I'm still undecided bit leaning towards a ZL1. The Z/28 would have to have a wicked n/a engine for me to consider it, like a 427.

ZL1 for me. I like the creature comforts and I'll never take the car to a road course. I would drag race it though. Not to mention the auto trans option.

Price independent and assuming availability of both, I'd pick the Z/28 every time. Maybe even if I didn't have a mild track day habit.

Partly because it better emphasizes "balance" among the various kinds of performance, where the ZL1 is still biased toward brute force/acceleration/the drag strip/comfort & convenience "features" over cornering.

And partly because once I have A/C and just a basic radio/CD player in my car there isn't much more on the usual option lists I can think of that I'd want badly enough to really miss if it wasn't there. Don't even want high tech packages. But I would go for a separate set of same-size wheels with 200 TW summer tires for the majority of the street driving that it would see.

I've ridden in a 5th gen Z/28 (and driven it, slowly and very briefly), and its ride quality seemed like it was on par with where my current car is now with the dampers cranked only a little off full soft. I'd assume that a 6th gen Z/28 would be about the same . . .

If the 6th gen Z/28 is built like the 5th gen, I would prefer it over the ZL1.

By going to parts.rydellchev.com, I found the front Z28 brake rotors are $1391 each. I have seen a list price over $2k. The 2015 ZL1 rotors are about $650 or a bit less. In discussions with a Chev sale manager yesterday, he said the Z28 rotors have a certification paper that says the technician installed them without breaking them. When you add in tires that offer no reasonable amount of tread, I can see why almost new Z28s are at $50k - $55k all over the country. BTW, 2016 Camaro SS front rotors are about $136.

I'd go ZL1 because I'd do more DD than track. I'm also addicted to boost since getting the Heartbeat. It's just amazing and you guys that get a ZL1 are going to love it.

I'll take the track-focussed Z/28. Fastest lap times, not highest HP is the objective for me. The new Z/28 should be faster around the track than the 2017 ZL1.

I fully believe that the engineers pushed the limits of front-engine design with this new Camaro. I do not see the Z28 gaining enough ground in the design category to push it past the ever-capable ZL1 with mag ride, downforce, aero, power, etc. Even with full race suspension and whatever else they can come up with for the Z28, I just don't think it will be enough on most large courses. The ZL1, with it's computer wizardry and insane chassis/suspension is no longer just a dragster. Add to this it is obtainable by hard working class folks. The Z28, I would sincerely doubt it comes in less than the Z06.

Even if it isn't any faster in terms of lap times, a Z/28 should still drive with better balance and a lighter touch (not doing so would be a pretty significant 'fail'). So at identical lap times, the Z/28 would overall be more satisfying to drive. Probably still so even if the ZL1 was pulling out small time advantages here and there on the straights.
