any reason NOT to use recommended oil...

So, I have an open "Free oil" change with a GM dealer from when I bought my car. I've not used it, and don't plan to because I don't want my car in shop unless absolutely necessary. With that being said, I changed my own oil at 500 miles and ready to change it again at 2700 miles. Last time I used Mobil 1 Supercar Full Synthetic 0W-40 and a ACDelco PF64 filter. Would there be any reason to select a different oil vs just stick with what I've been using?

Thanks

No reason unless you’re gonna track your car or go with the recommendations after being highly modified

Sooo, no tacking. But any harm in going 5W50 anyway? I don't drive my car when the are less than 40°!

The lighter weight oils will get into your internals faster, if you’re not abusing your engine stick with the lighter weight, like 5-30 if 0-40 gives you concern

If you’re doing your oil change then go with the factory suggested brand and weight. I do my oil changes and use Lucas 5w30 and either a Mobil 1 or Napa Gold filter. That’s just me though.

You know what I mean, for example, we run 50 weight oil in our diesel engines at work that run all day every day. But upon fire up, they sound like a bag of marbles before they warm up.

Send samples to Blackstone-labs and pay the extra for the TBN ($45). Gives your grandkids a great documented provenance on the original survivor numbers matching engine

Once I put the higher viscocity oil in for a track day that is when my oil pump started to fail.
I ran about 3 morning sessions and had to leave due to the tires becoming shredded on the outside face.
I drove home then changed the oil the next day but the damage was already done.

Then there is chevy to worry about.
The chevy field technician said that the oil filter was installed "incorrectly" and i had the wrong oil in it.
The pump failed, and when pressed Chevy said that they will only pay 30% of dealer invoice for repair because I tracked the car, installed the oil filter wrong and used the wrong oil; which is BS.

Proceed at your own risk.

With your year, it is a concern. With a 2023, and with this so-called upgraded pump with warranty, why would you put 50 weight, other than track or the suggested oils for highly modified engines.

Yes! Unless you are going to track the car or highly, modify your engine and use the recommended oil, I thought I said that already. I thought my first time suggestion would set in.
