Driveshaft removal
Ok I’m stumped. Installing Drive Shaft Shop one piece shaft today and all in all it was going real smooth until it was time to drop the original two piece shaft. Both ends are loose and spin freely, I can push and pull both sides but neither front at trans or rear at diff will slide off the stub enough to drop out. Any advice ? What am I missing ?

See .pdf file at the bottom of this thread (for reference and torque specs): https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=14
I used that procedure and had no issues during my shifter install. The driveshaft can be squeezed together to clear the trans and diff.

Thanks for the link. Like you said the Hurst info says to squeeze the two ends of the shaft together to clear the diff and the trans flanges. I’m going back at it.

This thing will not squeeze together. Tried moving the diff up and down without any luck. Feels like the joint in the center of the shaft may be hyper extended and stuck in place.

Those driveshafts are a pita to remove. I always pulled them out from the diff side first because it was too hard on the trans side. Push the center support as far into the tunnel as it will go and then use a prybar on the biscuit coupler to get it over the diff guide pin. Don't be shy, persuasion is most often times needed.
Edit; you need to break free the biscuit from the DS first.

Ditto on the PITA... I remember having trouble as well and it was a fight that was won with said persuasion and cussing. I thought I got mine out at the trans side. But was going back and forth so much I honestly do not remember (I was more worried about getting bonked in the head with the DS while doing it myself). If it wasn't for the CV I would offer to come help give you a hand. We are like 10min from Hudson. Seriously hope you get it out!!! Let us know...

I used a large pry bar between the flange on the rear end and the driveshaft. I could not do it by hand.

It’s out. Thanks for the link and the pry bar suggestions. Blown away it talks all that to remove. I thought I was going to break something. Almost broke my nose with one mis pry. May or may not have a black eye tomorrow. Lol
