Persistent "rumble strip" problems

Hey all,
So I'm at a loss here. My 2016 ss (22k miles) had the same A8 torque converter problems that I've seen some here have. I did the whole song and dance with the dealership and then some. 3x Fluid change, new converter, trans reflash, tire inspection, rotation, balance, and alignment just in case but I'm still getting the intermittent rumble around 1.5k - 2k on the tach (60ish to 70ish mph). Does anyone have any insight into this cause, or have similar experience?

if the fluid change and converter don't fix it, they are supposed to replace the transmission, iirc

Cars at the dealer right now for the same exact thing, had the converter replaced in may of last year. There putting in a new one again but I’m also worried it may have damaged the transmission permanently.

I noticed i'd hear weird rumbling sounds too. just for shits and giggles....pull fuse 51. it's possible what you're feeling/hearing is the NPP valves. They do close a little bit even if set to track mode.

What I know is this...I heard rumbling sounds. So I asked asked quite a few people with the TC shudder issue on here what they are actually feeling. They said it was more of a vibration, not a sound. So I'm like hmmm WTF. Then I remembered I put fuse 51 back in to have stealth mode. So I went and pulled 51 back out and the rumbling sound is gone. Which leads me to believe that even in track mode, the NPP valves will close a little at lower rpms.

I would have them look at the AFM (??? See #2 below) valves. I had 3 issue with my car:

1- NPP valves - rattle sound. They did the epoxy fix, no issues so far

2- AFM valves (I think that is what they were. Dealer told me they were valves further up in the exhaust system that were not serviceable)- sounds like the TCC shudder/NPP rattle, but NO VIBRATIOPN. They replaced the entire exhaust system, and reapplied #1, no issues so far

3- TCC shudder - sounds like the AFM valves but HAS VIBRATION. Did fluid flush no issues so far

Each of these were done ~1-2 month apart in the above order and each fixed the issue I was currently having at that time.

When I say no issues so far on 1 and 2, I mean until last month when I got rear ended and insurance replaced entire exhaust system again :-(. But so far, knock on wood I don't have any issues with the current new exhaust system which they did apply the epoxy fix too.

The torque converter shudder is very obvious and would not be mistaken for the NPP rattle or the AFV.

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this as this has been a long and painful process for me leaving me without my car for almost 4 of the 20 months that I have owned it. Currently the car has approx. 4,500 miles on it and they have done the following.

Trans reflash. No effect but they sent me home anyway.

Trans Flush 3X, Reflash. Better for the drive home. As soon as I was able to get the trans up to temp the issue returned.

[B]New Converter, Reflash - Better for a while. No shudder but trans stopped shifting about 100 miles later.

Replace Transmission, Replace Torque Converter, Reflash and obviously fluid. All was well for about 1000 miles until the shudder returned.

Replaced Torque Converter again. Refilled transmission. Problem gone.

Replaced Transmission, Converter and new fluid Again
. Erratic shifting around 2500 miles. Found metal flakes in the transmission. Looked like glitter in the transmission. Attributed this to the last failed converter. All was well for almost 1500 miles.

Fast forward to last Saturday. Pulled the car out to go to lunch and found a huge puddle of transmission fluid under the car. Towed to dealer. Said trans line is cracked and needs to be replaced. Part should be here in a few days.

Was really hoping that is was another trans issue as I would have a case for lemon law here in IL.

This will be my last GM vehicle. I went through issues with my 5th Gen. and hoped that the 6th Gen would be better. I was wrong. Turns out they can build a worse car than the 5th gen.

That’s absolutely incredible. Sorry to hear all the hell you’ve gone through.

Looking at a newer 2ss or even a little older C7. With A8. But damn this really scares me from buying a huge headache. Wonder how common this is with the A8. On this and other forums it sounds really common. Is it covered under the longer powertrain warranty?
