Cams are new to me, so I am not familiar with their principles. Been doing a lot of reading and trying to take it all in. Are the hp/tq gains different for each cam? If I don't go with boost, should I do the SS2? I think anything bigger than an SS2 would be too loud in a vert. I do a lot of hwy cruising with the top down so I don't want to lose that drivability. Are there any sound clips around of the SS1 vs SS2?

Thanks again.

Naming and numbering of cams is different for every shop. Most times, the higher the number, the more radical the cam, the more HP it makes. A cam will certainly make your exhaust louder but you can battle that with a quieter exhaust. It won't be stock quiet but it won't sound like a NASCAR either. You can easily make a SS2 cam quiet at cruise, with the right exhaust setup. Sound clips for what you're looking for would be pointless since most want a very aggressive sound, while you're looking for something quieter. IMO, getting a SS1 cam is pointless, for the money it costs. It's the same price no matter what cam you get until you have to add a converter.

I pretty much gathered this myself...we can play the dumb card and make a pass and let off, then throw the Hail Mary and off to the carshow. LOL
I'm not going...so I wish the best for everyone. My gut says if no one makes a stink the test and tune segment will probably be more lax for a bit.

Most 1/8 mile tracks are ok unless an event day with prizes and 1/4 miles are 50/50 on it but who knows I may run 11.00

Dude, I think with the way your car runs, you could have made a better pass on a full drag wheel setup. Not sure what you'll get out of a cam swap but we're all ready to see.

Have any videos of your cams that can show/let us hear the differences between, mild, aggressive, stealthy?

GPI VVT3 FTW!

Here's our first experience with the GPI VVT SS3 stick here at SWS.

Enjoyed talking to Ryan at length about his approach on tuning their camshaft. Worked out very well and it's apparent that he has really done some great homework in preparing these for the community.

Genuine righteousness.

Our particular vehicle had no baseline dyno prior to the camshaft swap, but on our Dynojet 424xlc a typical L99 stock cars do between 310 and 330.

This graph merely represents the difference in the before and after results of tuning the car here at our place. Very nice gains!

VVT grinds:
SS1, Power range idle to 6500
SS2, Power range 2000 to 6700 (works with stock converter or 2800+ converter)
SS3 Power range 3000 to 6800+ (3200+ converter required)
SS4 Power range 4000 to 7000+ (3600 minimum converter, best with 4000+) (flycutting required)

All these cams can be altered for different specific setups and also for forced induction, and/or nitrous applications.

For cam selection, just message me with your setup and goals, what kind of idle you are looking for and we can go from there!
What hp gains am i looking at with the ss2?
