I love to mod and I would have loved to get a base GT at sub $30K and mod the crap out of it, but a transmission replacement!?! No freakin thank you! I considered the MGW route to improve it, but it just killed the desire for me. Spoiled by my previous Tremec I guess.
Every car has it's problems when you start modding. My T-56 in my 2000 SS was glass just like the 10 bolt that would break if you looked at it wrong. After 2 gear sets and two T-56s I got a 9" (Ford) and a TH-350.

It was a lot better than the 5 speed in the mustang. I don't recall the f-body community as a whole hating on the t-56. Mine was great.

Yep the 10 bolt was weak.

It was also 15 years ago

That's odd. I had a few T-56's and they were bullet proof. One was behind a low 11 sec 2000 SS that had probably 300 passes on it, and the car had 65K on it when I sold it. It is still going strong at 80K now. My other one was on a '95 Z28 that was a mild bolt on car, never had an issue with that one either. Come to think of it, I don't know anyone with major T-56 issues and I was in a F-Body club with over 100 cars. You can't compare a T-56 with an MT-82...the ratio of failure and problems between the two is not even close. The MT-82 is a Chinese made piece of crap...

I'll agree on the 10-bolt though, they were weak sauce even on stock cars.

You double the HP in anything. And it'll find something to break. Especially if you race the car. The discussion should be how does the transmission hold up to stock power levels.

You're absolutely right. I am not one to complain when a part fails on a modded car. The manufacturers job is to provide adequate hardware to handle the stock form of the car adequately. I think the MT-82 does that for the most part, but it leaves A LOT to be desired.

A manual transmission is a must in a car like this(for me). When that manual transmission is not up to snuff and reduces the joy of driving a manual, even slightly, it becomes unacceptable and in my case at least causes buyers to go another route.

I would rather have a car that is a few thousand more dollars, and has better hardware. Maybe Ford will do something awesome again, and make the Tremec available in the GT for 2018. Maybe part of the PP2 package? Who knows, but excited to see.

Perhaps they can move to the GT350's TR3160.
