GM vs Cold Air inductions intake

So I've been told that Cold Air Inductions actually makes the intake for GM, but the GM one recommends the dealer MAF tune, and Cold Air Inductions does not. Can someone explain the differences in these two intakes, and why one recommends a MAF tweak, while the other doesn't, even though they are supposedly the same basic intake designed by the same company. Thanks

The difference is that the GM CAI includes a hydrocarbon absorber inside the metal intake tube to make it 50-state CARB compliant. The Cold Air Inductions CAI doesn’t and isn’t CARB compliant. According to GM the hydrocarbon absorber changes the air flow enough to require the MAF recalibration that is performed by the dealer. Another difference is that the GM CAI uses a dry paper filter while the CAI unit uses an oiled cloth filter.

Thanks for the response. Ok that makes sense then. I really wanted the GM one, but there is no calibration for the the 2018 V6 unfortunately.

Not sure on the exact part number, but it's the only one for the 6th gen V6 on the chevy performance parts website. It just sucks that GM decided to not show the same love for the 2018 model with the MAF calibration.

Right now I'm still under warranty, but when that's up I'm planning on a tune.
