Driving car home advice

Hello
I have done a deal with a dealer in nc for a hyper blue 2ss 1le and I’m gonna drive back home to the Tampa area this week.
First of all , I’ve owned stick shifts cars before but it’s been a loooong time.
So any advice on driving it home, like protecting the paint , car driving techniques, etc
I’m super excited as I’ve been looking for a car for a while and I found this 1le now that gm is doing 0% apr!
Thank you

Driving car home advice

They sell track tape on amazon. $25 for a 100 ft (3” wide) roll

Tracwrap or Road Warrior Plus. Many do just blue painters tape.

And get a bottle of turtle wax bug and tar remover for when you get home. I drove my car home across the state from North Palm in July and the bugs were holy hell in Okeechobee. Wish I had one of the above for that trip.

Take as many back roads as possible on your trip home, try to avoid hopping on the highway and setting the cruise to 65.
You don't want to cruise at a steady speed for an extended period of time. Vary your vehicle speed and engine rpm. Don't rev it out, don't do jack rabbit starts, or heavy braking for the first 1500 miles or so.

I forget exactly what they state is the exact break in procedure, but your first road trip home could be an important one.

Hope for good weather, and pray for no snow and salt.

Congrats, and have a safe trip.

I’m still in break-in, it’s until 1500 miles.

Rules
1. Don’t rev over 4000rpm.
2. Don’t use cruise control.
3. Don’t cruise at constant engine rpm.
4. No hard acceleration or braking
5. Be careful with tires for first 300 miles, they can be slippy. (Ask me how I know)

There were others but those are the key ones. As stated above, you’ll likely want to plan on using back roads if possible. Time and hotel costs to consider. You can chance ignoring break in rules and cruise back, or spend $1000 to have it shipped, or make a nice vacation and take your time coming home. Western NC mountains down into Georgia etc.

Don't expect a 1le to stay pristine. Rock guards and x-pel help paint. You will get some chip in your wheels also from flying debris..it's worth it though..

It is a car - road rash is inevitable unless you just ship it.

Break in...I would just drive it gently and not use cruise. Believe the engines are far more durable than engines of past.

Congratulations on the purchase!

A few years ago I did a demo ride in one of those Polaris Slingshots. I climbed in and stared at the stick shift in terror for a few seconds. It was at least 30 years since I had driven a stick.

It all came back immediately. Maybe it had something to do with being a motorcycle rider?

Dont forget to tape the hell out of the area in front of the rear tires. Worst place so far for rocks hitting.

Thank you all, the timing and expenses may not work out so I may have to have it shipped now.
I’ll post pics as soon as I’m in it

This.
Unless you plan to wrap it with paint protection film when you get home, taping it up is Overkill. If you plan to drive this car, and not just park it in the garage and stare at it, road rash is inevitable.
