I agree with the OP. I've had several 5th gen Camaros and the backup camera image on my 2018 sucks. The guidance lines are very difficult to see and the image appears to have a filter over it. I've thought about replacing it with an after market camera with guidance lines already programmed in. Problem is this is not a cheap undertaking. A good camera goes for around $250 or more if you count installation. I don't think GM would ever admit that these cameras suck and replace them as part of our warranty.

I am on my third Gen6, a 2017 18 and now a 19. I’ve had both the 7 and 8 inch screens in the cars. I noticed right away that the image quality had improved quite a bit on the 7 inch screen in the new 19 over the previous older generation my link system. I’m not sure if the improvement is from a better camera or the upgraded system or maybe both...

A little update, so the other day I needed to move the car and son hopped in the car let’s go for a drive, when I pulled in the front of the house I realized I needed to backup,I put the car in reverse the camera came on and I was like man does this picture look good to you,he’s no I can’t tell really what is back there, he is 12 and has perfect vision, so I told him go get my phone so I could take a pic to show you guys, I put car in park he got back with the phone put the car in reverse didn’t pay attention to it,just took the picture looked at the picture and it was nice and clear,I was like WTH ,looked at the screen and it was nice and clear”I thought it was just my phone fixing the pic” my son says now it is clear what happened? I don’t know, so now it has been clear 90% of the time, I don’t think it is my screen because I have some pictures that come up on it and they look Awesome, so there’s something going on with the camera I believe . Will be getting in touch with the dealer and see what they say, I will let you know what they say. Thanks for everyone’s reply.

I would take it to a dealership that has a similar Camaro on the lot. The 19 image is much more clear and crisp than the previous years. You shouldn't have a washed out image at all. Compare it to another car and then if you see a difference, show the service advisor and have them replace the camera.

The only time I have a washed out image is at night when reversing I have a 2017 and have no problem with my camera. Does anyone have a pic of the washed out image?

That's pretty common on the pre-2019 Cameras. The night image for 2019+ is much more clear than the previous years. The daytime image isn't necessarily washed on previous years but it's not as clear. It's like comparing 1080P to 480P.

I'll have to take one today to post for reference. I'm just curious if mine is as bad as what some others are saying.

OP Its not the camera, its the model car/radio you have, If you did not get the high end Radio then the image is not that good.

I have the high end radio and my image is no where near as sharp and colorful as a previous 2015 that I had. And you need to squint to see the guidance lines.

We have the 8"screen in our 2019 2.0T 1LE and the image is bad, so bad it looks like an old B/W TV, i know in our 18 with the 8" screen the image is 100X better, its not the best but not to bad.

If you have the Y3W Technology package with the 8" HD display, something is definitely wrong with yours. My wife's 2019 with Y3W looks 1000x better than her 2016 with Y3W looked.

The 7" screen is not HD so I could see some folks complaining about the image on that one.
