Track Day @ Thunderhill (5-Mile) - 2017 SS 1LE

Well, after 6 months and 9,000 miles, I finally got the car out on track at Thunderhill, running the 5-mile configuration with the west bypass. To keep it brief, WOW. It was about 108 degrees and the car performed flawlessly and never overheated. I definitely wasn't pushing to 10/10ths, but I managed to cut almost 25 seconds off my lap time from the morning to the afternoon (on a ~4 minute, 5 mile lap). Judging by the PDR data, I was still coasting at the end of some straights and not 100% on the brakes, so I'm sure there is plenty more in it. I mostly had the PTM in Sport 1 mode.

Other than tires, engine oil, and brake fluid, my car is completely stock. I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S (fantastic on road and track, still 80% life at the end of the day), Valvoline SynPower MST 5W-40 oil, and Motul RBF 600 DOT 4 brake fluid.

Here's the PDR footage of my best lap of the day, a 3:38. Also there's a spin at the end of the video... Turned in way too soon to a corner with a crested apex, corrected mid corner, rear end got light... and bam! It was totally predictable, but I was way too slow to react. Absolutely loving the post-analysis from the PDR, it's waaay easier to use than a GoPro + phone data app. Photos are from gotbluemilk.com.

The PDR had 441 degrees of steering angle after your spin.

If there's a place to spin, that's it! Not much to worry about there ...

You ran that track well. It would take a minute to learn it with all of the turns and elevation points. The Cosworth Toolbox would be rich with data for such an intricate course.

I have came close to spinning a couple times on track and you are correct when saying that this car is so predictable. Especially in Sport 1. It gives throttle back quickly and will save your ass when necessary.
