I decided to put down $2000 when the salesman asked for a number between $500 and $5000, up to me, just to confirm that I'm serious. Obviously the supply and demand situation was very different in 2018.

Dealers will often justify asking for a deposit for a "custom order", which is basically any order but they're almost leading you to believe that yours is such a unique specification that no-one else in the country will want it!! Very doubtful in this current climate and most dealers will either have a standard policy around this or as you're placing the order they're busy assessing how easy your chosen specification will be to sell on in the event you pull out of the deal which might drive how strict they are around any deposit...

Back in Nov 2019 I ordered my 2020 2SS, I put down a $500 refundable deposit...

JoeP is our resident GM employee, who is kind enough to do status updates on a daily basis for us. Sundays, the system is down.

You will need your build sheet code, which is a 6-digit (alphanumeric, as well) code for him to look up your order. He will give it's current status in return (no, he cannot check status HISTORY). Reference the very first post to see what each code means.

to the forums, Snakes. Joe works at a dealership in Michigan and selflessly provides courtesy Camaro order status updates, even regularly, to everyone asking.

The only piece of info you need is your 6-letter order code that the salesperson was supposed to give you, then post your request in this thread: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415251. You will find references to Becky D in the thread, she was his wife who started this thread originally, and when she unfortunately passed away in 2020, Joe decided to honor her memory by continuing her legacy here.

Well we have bought over 20 cars from them over the years and they have always done what they say they will do. WHITNEY in service is amazing and our sales guy retired but MIKE would be a good contact for anyone considering an order. I havent check with them lately but feel free to call him regarding deposit amounts and what market adjustments if ANY they are doing now.

True but allocations are model specific so they would use their allocation one way or another especially for something like a Camaro ZL1. I have seen them take deposits when the options you order are a bit out of the norm though.

Crazy but true story... A customer at Classic Sugarland ordered a Red C7 Vette with yellow interior. His wife wanted one color and he wanted another, so this was the compromise. Turns out it was a manual, and he didn't know how to drive one, so they had to teach him.

I currently have a deposit on a 2022 ZL1 that is "In Transit" to the dealer. They asked for $500 on my credit card, which they did not run through and charge me. Said they'd only do that when they called and said "come get it" if I did not.

Fair enough.

$1000 back in December of 2019 to order my 2020. I wouldn’t think anyone should have to put more than that down unless it’s for a Corvette they seem in high demand.

$1000 at 2 different dealers with the understanding I could cancel and get deposit back if I cancelled before the order was accepted by GM for production.

The second dealer still hadn't even gotten an allocation by the time the other order was built and delivered, so got my deposit back.
