Recent Tune... lot of smell

It seems that they are differing opinions on this... got my tune done about 10 months ago... it idles at around 1K or so now, and smells like fuel, always... is it going to blow up, or is it just running rich which makes the motor last? The tuner had a reason for it and I think he mentioned overlap... it's a blower cam... should I get it re-tuned somewhere?

Do you still have cats?
If so, raw fuel will kill them faster.

Injector timing can be adjusted to reduce/eliminate the raw fuel smell when you have a larger than stock cam installed. The settings in the tune are around EOIT (End of Injection timing). If the injector is flowing fuel when the exhaust valve is open/opening then that's what you get - raw fuel smell. It takes a pretty savvy tuner to adjust these settings but there are some calculation tools out there to help.

Yup, still have em. High flow though.

Okay - I get you... makes a lot of sense. It's there a cost to leaving it the way it is? (Apart from literally burning money on extra fuel). In other words, will the motor wear quicker? I know that the cats will go sooner than later, but just curious if it'll cost me anything in the long haul.

Thanks!

Everything about a motor is balance . Yes gm send their cars out of the factory on the rich side but there’s a threshold where too rich will harm your motor . Being a tad rich is better than being a tad lean ..
You should talk to your tuner or if he can’t do it then find another ..

I'm not sure of any detrimental effect you will have on the motor itself being that way. Not really sure if you're running rich. The description of the problem I think you're having is related more to raw fuel being pulled out of the cylinder as the injector is pulsing it in (EOIT with the larger cam). So, the effect of that could be a shorter life of your O2 sensors, and of course the stinky garage from the car idling. If you were really running rich, pulling spark plugs and inspecting them (dark and sooty black) could be in indicator that you're running too rich.
