LFX misbehaving

started my car ,6 cylinder with 52,000 miles on it for the first time in a couple of days.sounded like it wasnt firing on one cylinder and check engine light was flashing.after about 10 seconds, long enough to back out of the driveway and get into forward gear light goes out,car runs fine and then about 5 miles later the water temp starts acting screwy,up to 195,back down to 170,up to the normal which is 183.any clues as to whats going on here?

What was the code?
Battery?
As they get weak strange things begin to happen.

it quit flashing so i didnt think to get the code read.will it be stored even though it has stopped and seems to be running ok now? after searching the forums im thinking 196 isnt really running that hot in traffic, had the a/c off as the florida weather has been cold lately and a/c not needed.normally i run it all the time ,march through november so the a/c fans are always on and coolant temps are low.

Oil fouled a plug, pretty common as soon as it gets some heat in the cylinder it clears. Might be time to change the thermostat. If it does it again change it.

im thinking i might have figured out the temp fluctuations.i normally run with the a/c on all the time but every so often it gets cold enough outside to shut it,and hence the a/c cooling fans off.heat never got over 196,i was just not used to it going over 185 or so.

Temps are supposed to fluctuate within a range as long as you don't get into overheating territory you're good. Don't know what the spec is offhand but anywhere under 205 is likely normal.
