Header and cam install price.

Got a quote from a local shop to get headers and cam package install with all the supporting mods for the cam and dunk tune. The quote was $6,400 is this to high of a price for this?

You'll need to provide more details on the parts.

sounds about right since they are pulling the heads it appears. Most cam swaps i have seen posted are in the $5k range parts/labor. But you are getting headers installed and they are pulling the heads. Only part that sounds a little high to me is the Tuning cost.

Sounds about right. Labor is going to be high on the Gen V motors, you have to pull the heads to change the lifters and also drop the oil pan (two things you didn't have to do on the cam installs for previous gen ZL1).

Tuning cost seems a little high to me, but if it is a good reputable tuner, then that's fine. The tuning is complicated on these cars also so you want someone who is going to spend the time to get it right. The dyno part is simple it is the driveability that takes so long.

I agree with the tuning. It should be about half or 2/3's at most.

The rest is average. You're not getting a deal and you're not getting screwed if it's a reputable shop.

Sounds about right. The tuning sounds high but if this is with the 4 credits needed to unlock, dyno tune, and street tune then it’s right. I see you are adding lower pulley to it as well. Might consider going to a 9.17 lower and since the blower is off get it ported and bigger throttle body. Could save a little money by using a soler 95mm instead of a NW 103. Car should make crazy power for maybe 2k more.

Very good point!

The last thing you want to skimp on is the tune. If that is a very thorough tune, with a lengthy drive street tune included with dyno time, then I wouldn't worry too much. My 5th Gen cam tune cost me $500 from Matt Sorian and he drove it for quite a while while tuning it. I would expect a 6th Gen ZL1 tune to cost more anyway.

OP, good luck on the build. It is exactly what I would do if I was lucky enough to have a ZL1.

What year is your car? If 17 or 18 I would have them replace the oil pump while in there.

It’s a 18, and why go with a 9.17 lower?

9.1 lower will give you 2 more lbs of boost. They have to remove the balancer to do the cam so it wouldnt cost any more in labor to do the 9.1. It will add $600 to the cost though

It will not cost more than what is already quoted since the ATI damper and 9.06” pulley are on the bill now. You will only need to go with the 9.17 rather than the 9.06”.
