Sorry man, missed that post. If that's the case then yeah the ZL1 (especially with the M6 would make sense for the weekend toy!!

It's all good lol. I wish it was feasible, but a 100k dollar daily isn't quite in my cards with a wife who also tracks (so double the expensive cars).

I'm AWD, and not that far away around 640ish. Still doesn't change the characteristics of the car.

Have my appointment tomorrow for the ZLE.

And let's be honest. I miss the sound of a V8.
You've had your mind made up since the first post, at least it seems to me.

Trading it in on the ZL1. Getting roughly 10k over what we paid MSRP.

Yup.

I did the same thing 20 years ago with an E46 M3. It was a modded thing of beauty. But it was quiet and boring. I sold it for a C5 Corvette at the time - wanted something more visceral.

M cars became too numb and emotionless over the past 10 years. I had M3 F80 with a manual, that car was kind of fun to drive. Then I had M5 F90, that was an even faster car on paper, but giving absolutely no emotion. G80 series M3 is exactly like that, they made it a mini-M5. Besides lacking fun factor, there is another problem with BMW M - they depreciate like crazy. My M5 was $120K msrp and after 3 yr lease end it was worth like $75K. American cars like ZL1, GT500 or Corvettes on the other hand hold value very well. The only drawback, they do not have prestige of European counterparts, and non-car people will question how you could trade BMW for a Chevy…

Even car people question why I'd ever make the switch haha. But they have become incredibly numb. Jason Cammisa put it best. We pushed BMW for a decade to produce better numbers, and less emotion as to not be left behind. BMW had finally listened to us, and now all we want back is the emotion. With mods, my M3CX should be pretty similar to an M5, even utilizing the exact same xdrive pulled directly out of the M5. So can only imagine they felt incredibly similar.

Honestly, I don't care for the "prestige" or understand it. Also got so old listening to "Must be nice to be able to afford that" etc. When that very same person's GT500 cost more than the M3 did lol.

While the M3 could subjectively be made to be fun, that fun was made at speeds FAR exceeding anything close to legal lol, and even then was pretty meh.

Still have the E92 and the ZL1. Keeping them both. They compliment each other. The 8300 RPM NA IC of the E92 is amazing. That BMW is a great car.
