Tail of the Dragon

Has anyone here ever driven their ZL1 on the Tail of the Dragon is the Great Smoky Mountains? It is an 11 mile drive through the mountains with 318 curves according to the info. It's on the North Carolina and Tennessee border. A lot of people take their motorcycles or sports cars on the drive. It's something I would like to do. It would be great to set up a meet with ZL1 owners to do the trip together.

Haven’t took the ZL1, but I go every year with my BMW S1000RR. Road and surrounding area is amazing to drive/ride. It’s also very dangerous area with multiple fatalities yearly.

The problem with the TOTD is so many ppl do it, so lots of traffic, and the speed limit is like 45 if I remember correctly. I found the surrounding roads to be more fun and less traffic. If you're close to it then, by all means, check it out on an off day, Tues, Wed, Thur, but try to avoid it on nice weekends.

Foothills Parkway is a lot more fun in high powered cars. That includes my lower powered than a ZL1, SS 1LE. Been to the Smokies many times.

I didn't know about the Foothills Parkway. I go to that area quite a bit when I go to the casino in Cherokee. I'll have to check that out

I live close by, and it's become way too popular, unfortunately. Cops are always at the ready to pull you over for anything, too. I have sought out some lesser known, freshly paved alternative routes in Cherokee territory that can still make one queasy with high speed turns galore

From pigeon forge you can run the foothills down to 129 turn left and go right on to the dragon...the cherohalla skyway is also amazing...

I’ll be back up in the wearsvalley/gatlinburg area in the coming weeks. Unfortunately won’t be ZL1 weather. Nor is my destination capable with one. Regardless I did get to rip my LT1 on foothills back when I had it and it was spectacular. The whole area is amazing in the right weather just be careful like others have warned.

There are other options in the Smokies that are virtually empty. Drove my 2010 SS there a few years back, and hope to take the 2023 ZL1 soon.

+1 for the cherohalla skyway. Elevation changes, sweepers, wider. I believe TOTD is set to be repaved sometime this year.

There is a group of Camaros that have an event there every year. Look up AAFCA

I did a 3-day trip in October and it was fantastic. I made a video with some tips and what to do. Honestly, you could spend an entire week in the area. The Tail of the Dragon US 129 is the most known road, but there are many other and less crowded roads in the area. The Cherohala Skyway is a must drive. Plan for lots of stops at the scenic overviews. If you want any other tips or have questions, hit me up.

We stayed at the Tapoco Lodge and it was great:

There are also houses you can rent. I saved this one for next time:

Wow, thanks for sharing all of that!! I haven't been to the Smoky Mountains since my early 20's - probably 30 years ago. I'd love to take my Camaro down there someday soon! Wish it wasn't so far from Wisconsin, but would like to spend a few days down there someday soon.

I lived in Wisconsin in the late 90s, you have some great roads up there. I wouldn't worry about making it down to TOTD.
