Brand New Fifty Anni SS - P0300 Random Missfire

I think im gonna puke.

I started my brand new Camaro 50th SS today, it was delivered by flat bed Jan 6th and hasn't turned a wheel since i got it.

Idle seemed a bit rough when i started it

After several minutes The CEL came on

Plugged in my Code Reader - P0300 Random Miss fire

I cleared the code & the CEL went off.

Left the code reader in and the P0300 came back - but no CEL. ???????

I took it out for a drive - my first drive ever - no CEL but the Code is still coming back, i clear the code and it comes back immediately, still feels rough, but no CEL.

I got rid of my 2011 RS for this exact issue, couldn't get rid of it, it was in and out of the shop for 2 years. Now I get the same issue on my new car before i ever drove it....I'm gonna be physically sick.

could it be bad gas ?, its been sitting 3 months, its got 1/4 tank of gas, I put stabilizer in it....ill drive to town tomorrow and put 93 octane in it , see what happens...otherwise.... probably a vaccume issue or egr leak ? if so

Back to dealer on Monday - Im p'd off

The code will set as pending first - you won't see the light for a few drive cycles, that's why you see the code on scanner.

Hang in there until it's checked out, the computer can't ID it to a particular cylinder so it could be something simple!

My guess is the fuel, these motors hate regular

I've had a misfire on startup CEL, which is somewhat known, and the dealer had to replace an injector

Took it 40km to the gas station, it was noticably smoother when i arrived, filled up on high octane, 40km back home. Smoother now, but i still seem to have a P0300 on the code reader.

I notice my reader says "01/01 Permanent" when the code comes up. I erase the code, and it comes back, so Im not sure if the car is still throwing the code or if its a stored code that I cant erase ?

Yesterday when i got the light and the code, the car was stumbling badly, almost stalling a few times. not doing that now.

The OBDII Scanner I have says there are no DTC's, so i assume the code P0300 is a "pending" code, but no idea why the reader is saying "permanent 01/01", i have seen some places say that it takes up to 40 cold start cycles to trip the CEL (? seems alot). Either way I'd assume (maybe incorrectly), that if i "Successfully" clear the code and it comes back right away then i still have a problem.

There is no "pending" displayed, no "MIL" displayed and No "Freezeframe" displayed only "permanent"

Not sure of your scanner but if the light is not coming on after multiple drive cycles then you might be good to go. (It will remain as pending for 40 drive cycles before it clears - some scanners can clear pending but not all)

thanks very much, i found this on the inter-web regarding Permanent DTC's ie my obd2 scanner cannot erase them...

Permanent DTCs

These are the new, emission-related DTCs that can’t be cleared from the ECM or TCM until the computer knows for sure that the problem was fixed. This usually involves performing a Universal Trip Drive Pattern exactly as described, but there are other ways, such as performing a dedicated monitor cycle. Permanent DTCs first appeared on certain 2009 vehicles, and are being legislated on 2010 vehicles. As with any new technology, the “glitches” may need to be worked out in the field, so reading the repair manual and TSBs are important steps before beginning diagnosis.

Universal Trip Drive Pattern

So, how to clear a Permanent DTC? By performing a Universal Trip Drive Pattern that meets the strict criteria in the repair manual, to prove to the computer that the fault has indeed been repaired and no one is trying to cheat on an emissions test. After performing this Drive Pattern, if the code doesn’t clear it’s usually because the strict criteria were not followed exactly. It’s a pain, but that’s the way it goes.

Typically, this Universal Trip Drive Pattern starts off by clearing all the DTCs so that only the Permanent DTC remains (always refer to service information for applicable information and procedures).

Then turn the ignition ON, start the vehicle and let it idle for at least 30 seconds. Then, without cycling the key, drive the vehicle for at least five minutes at more than 40 km/h. Then (again without cycling the key) let the vehicle idle for at least 30 seconds before shutting it OFF. The whole drive cycle must take at least 10 minutes. After performing a Universal Trip Drive Pattern, the computer clears the code, since it’s “seen” that the problem is fixed and not reoccurring. Sounds simple enough, and most problems have apparently come from not performing the Universal Trip Drive Pattern correctly, but time will tell if these new DTCs will be problematic.

Dealer found no issues with the car (as I expected). Its been running fine since the issue.

Dealer also said the P0300 was gone, I have not hooked up my OBDII reader, but if its gone then the GM Drive Cycle routine I did must have cleared it.

Fingers Crossed.
