Took my wife's car in for TQ converter and trans slip over a month ago. They did the trans fluid flush and has been rock solid so far.

There is a TSB regarding contaminated trans fluid being the cause of the issue.

I dropped mine off last Tuesday and the dealership still has it. They confirmed the issue and started the flush procedure GM has advised and as has been mentioned on this thread. That was completed either Friday or Saturday but they told me yesterday that it was better but not fixed so they are trying to flush again and may then order a new torque converter.

In the meantime they loaned me an Equinox, which is handy because I closed on my first house last Monday and I need the space for Home Depot/Lowes runs. I had help most of last week but the help had to leave so I told the dealer I needed an SUV and they came through for me. I miss the Camaro though...

How do I know if the trans is slipping? I have an a8? Sometimes it'll like jerk pretty bad when I first start the car and start driving.

I'll bump just to say I got my car back last Friday. GM made them try the flush procedure again and they drove it 200 miles for me (although they didn't specifically say that's what they were doing) and finally got GM to approve putting in a new torque converter. So far it seems ok. Friend on FB shared something from the Corvette side that suggests AFM is to blame and so long as GM can't figure out how to do it properly, or stop doing it, the problems may keep happening. Basically means I can't trust that this is fixed so I have to watch it.

Think your friend might have been talking about this but it says nothing about AFM causing the "real" issue.

"Note: If the shudder is only present in 4 cylinder mode and TCC slip is 10 rpm or less deem the shudder concern normal characteristic of AFM."

Glad to find this thread.

"shudder over rumble strips" is exactly what it feels like. have 15k on the car and over the last 2,000 miles I have experiencing an increasing and intermittent vibration that feels like an unbalanced wheel or driving over rumble strips.

I had the wheels balanced and it still happens. I can't correlate it to a particular speed, pavement condition or load on the motor. When I put the car in neutral, the vibration goes away. I'll watch to see if it happens in V4 mode.

have appt with dealer on 7/20 and will update after that. I hope they jump to replacing the TC and I don't have to go through the flushing process first.

I think the big question here is has GM changed anything in the converter design with these replacements? If its the same model converter being installed how can we expect different results down the road?

My car has only had the rumble strip symptom at 65-75mph. No slipping no shaking or any of that. It not repeatable by me it comes and goes intermittently but definately is there on the highway on rides over 10 or so miles long. Almost like the trans needs to be fully warm before it happens I had the transmission flushed by the dealer they used the Mobil1 HP fluid wich from what I understand is different from the fluid it came from the factory with originally. the first 300 miles there was zero difference on the highway still had the rumble strips but my last 3 rides on the freeway that were over 10 miles long it did not happen so im cautiously optimistic. One things is for sure if the converter gets replaced its not gonna be with the same unit that will have the same issue in the future.

My dealer did the transmission flush, but it didn't fix the issue. I dropped it off Saturday and just got back with me today. They said they are replacing the entire transmission, not the torque converter. Here is the bulletin he found. I'm kind of confused that they didn't just go with replacing the torque converter, since that's step #2 after the fluid flush. Anyone have there trans replaced for this shudder issue?

#44470: 44470 Torque Converter With Piston Apply Surface Not Machined - (Jun 7, 2016)
Subject: 44470 Torque Converter With Piston Apply Surface Not Machined

Models: 2016 Cadillac CT6
2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Condition
Certain 2016 model year Chevrolet Camaro and Cadillac CT6 vehicles, equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission (RPO M5T or M5N), may have been built with an incorrectly machined torque converter pressure plate. Over time, this condition could result in a shudder or vibration, fluctuations on the tachometer and possible torque converter failure.

Correction
Replace the transmission.

Transmission shudder: Update

Dealer did the triple flush procedure and said the tech test drove and it was now fine and I should drive it 200 miles. and if it was still there after 200 miles, to call back and they would replace the TC.

after driving it 2 minutes on the highway, I immediately knew it was not fixed. Every 60-90 seconds it shudders. Beats me how it could have been test driven and the shudder not noticed.

will call Monday AM for appt to replace the TC and let you know how that goes.

Mine has started shuttering also. I've noticed it when fully warm, 70-75 mph, a slight positive grade with rpm ~1700. Tap the paddle for a down shift and it goes away until the system takes it back to 8th.
