moving after startup

I've got the A8 transmission, and sometimes when I start the car & put it in drive, after the first 20-30 feet when I step on the gas it starts to "jump" a few times, then settles into a normal engine rumble.

I know that starting to drive immediately after putting it in gear may cause it to stall out, but does this sound normal?

Are you putting it into gear before the revs drop to normal idle speed? If so, that is probably the reason.

Usually you can hit the gas to drop the revs before you take out of park. When the problem happens, it doesn't sound like the revs are very high

I can't remember where I read it, but apparently there is supposed to be a valve in the exhaust that causes the cat converters to heat up quicker. When the proper temp is reached the revs drop down to normal idle speed. Then you can shift out of park.

I haven't read anywhere of using the "kick-down" method to lower the revs for the Camaro. I know I've read somewhere that you are supposed to let it drop to normal idle on its own before shifting out of park.
