Throttle Body Actuator DTC

I have a BBK throttle body. I have had the DTC throw codes at me three times now. First was a shotty wire job for the NOS by the previous owner, sorted that out. Next I was cleaning the throttle body and it threw a code, that was two days ago. This morning it went into low power mode and threw codes. I looked at the throttle plate and it may not be closing all the way. When I push it on the bottom it moves further back than it does when just resting. It doesn’t seem to be hindered in its movement at all.

Anyone else had this? Wondering if I should just replace the throttle body, was leaning towards one of the big mouth FAST intakes and would get a new throttle body then anyway.

BTW codes were: P1516 & P2101.

clear the codes and do an idle relearn reset with scanner.
If the throttle body is cleaned without performing an "idle learn reset/reset idle learn", the ECM/PCM may continue to compensate for previous carbon build up.

Ditch the BBK throttle body. They make many great products, but their throttle bodies aren't one of them. Check out Vmax or get in touch with Bo White and get one of theirs. If it's a large throttle body there's many other preferable companies. Good luck.

I agree. With what I know about the BBK TBs, I would say stop torturing yourself with a crap shoot of reliability and go with a Bo White, GPI, Mamo, Katech or any other reputable brand of ported TB. There are just too many known issues with these, and your is exhibiting all of the behaviors I have read about.

Of course, some people have no issues with these, but it is obvious that your isn't one of them. Good luck.

I am pricing out a ported OEM, either having Bo White do it or getting one from Katech. I want to put on a S.C. down the road, looking at Whipple. Do those come with their own TB? Just wondering if I should get a compatible TB now to avoid owning three TBs.

I am pretty sure it depends on the blower you get. But worst case, you just sell the extras. I had 3 throttle bodies at one point last year. Sold one, have the ported one on my car and the spare OEM unit sitting in the closet just in case. No big deal, you can usually sell for at least $75 for an OEM in good condition if you want. People will buy them to use as cores for a ported unit swap so they have no down time.
