Battery Drain

Good afternoon everyone.

My Wife's 2016 2SS must have some sort of parasitic battery drain going on. The car is just under 3.5 years old from our purchase date and if I replace the battery again, this will be the 4th battery in under 4 years.

We did have an issue with the electronic parking brake which the dealer installed some pigtail harness to bypass the shorted section of the harness if I remember correctly. Other than NPP rattles the car has been without issue.

Recently I have been keeping a trickle charger on the car but even doing that it is slow to start after a few days.

I have read the TSBs posted about OnStar potentially being an issue. Short from taking it back to the dealer and dealing with their BS does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't started my car in over 2 months and for some reason it starts up as if i drove it yesterday, quite surprised you are having an issue that consistently with your batteries. I hardly drive my car, i'm just waiting for the day the battery gives for the lack of use.

After your second battery, why would you continue to just buy batteries?… Obviously you have a parasitic drain… Somewhere… these new cars do take some current out of the battery when you’re not using it, but because any car company needs a batt to last longer in the storage lot at an airport for a couple weeks, otherwise the entire industry would have a huge problem.

Find a new dealer, and find the drain.

She honestly doesn't drive it long distances so contributed the batteries dying to more of a lack of use issue more than anything. The heat here in AZ also kills batteries like no other. Obviously not every year or less but that also was a thought playing into it. Thanks for the input.

I think I'll take it to our usual dealer down the road and see what they say before traveling further.

Interesting, and in Texas so gets hot there as well. Thanks for the info.

Have you been experiencing the slow crank when the car starts as well? My starter was draining my battery due to the heat in FL when consecutively starting the car within minutes or even hours. Ended up being a blown fuse by the battery terminals, and had to install an additional ground wire to starter bolt. No issues since

I too am suffering this issue. Dealer cannot find what's wrong. Car has left me stranded so many times, I've bought a jumper pack...which I've used too many times. Kyleef210 can you tell me specifically where to look for a blown fuse? And LoJac963 please let us know how this is resolved for you too. thanks all
PS - I found this other thread about a bad belt tensioner causing charging issues for the battery...

I don't think I have any issue with charging, but if my engine is hot and I try to restart it, it spins over super slow. It always starts, but spins so slow you wonder. When it's not hot, it starts perfectly every time. So I don't think I have the tensioner problem, but I am very interested as well in what fuse and extra ground wire kyleef did.

I found the starter fuse (F13) that was mentioned. Check this diagram. It's the fuse box on top of where your battery terminals are. Mine was not blown. Here's the link to the diagram https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=484525

Same issue here except mine has failed to start on several occasions and have been stranded a few times. In fact, its at the dealer right now for a 3rd time since June for this issue. It only happens on really hot days after its been driven for a while (at least 45 minutes). They've had a hard time nailing down the problem and even been in contact with GM engineers for further assistance. The "fix" a few months ago was to install a new negative from the battery (even tho there were no signs of loose connections or corrosion) but sure enough, it did fix the problem but only for a little while (few months). Although now, the slow crank/no crank at all has krept back up on hot days after the engine is warm. So again, I'm back at the dealer waiting to see what they say this time.

I've heard that others have added a second ground that has helped but after many searches I can't find if this is actually a permanent fix or not.

I noticed the other day that when driving, the battery gauge reads 13.5 or 14. This is good. Then another day it read 10.5 or 11 the whole 15 mile drive and then wouldn't start the next try. Looks like it isn't charging (some of the time). The alternator and battery were said to tested fine.

Let us know what if you find out anything different! I'm hoping that the fact we haven't heard much followup about the 2nd ground wire means it worked and people never came back to update the posts.
