The Op made his decision about buying a ZO6 Corvette and I accept that and happy for him! Enjoy your new ZO6!!

Please explain to me how a ZL1 is not a 6th gen Camaro.

And if you meant the turn in part, have you tracked both? As you often say, I've owned both as well (both 1LE versions) and I have tracked both a fair amount.

I didn’t say it wasn’t a 6gen Camaro! I said it isn’t the same as a SS. Have you tracked a ZL1 or ZL1 1LE? I’m sure they track different than a SS 1LE does. I didn’t buy a ZL1 to put on a track and risk destroying it in a crash as my driving skills aren’t on a professional race car driver level. I say let’s all drive what we want and get along with each other and enjoy our Camaros whichever model we choose to own! Just because my ideas on ZL1s are different from yours and other folks here doesn’t mean that I am wrong about them either! I have found out thru the years I have been on this forum that too many people like to argue with other folks and think that their views and opinions are the truth. I could care less about all of that and am open minded about other viewpoints on here!

To be clear, I do support people buying what they want and not buying what others think they should have (going back to the OP - it's why I think it's silly but his reasons are real to him sooooo).

Yes I tracked both. Already said that the SS turns in better on track. You really are missing out IMO on tracking the car - they are AMAZING on track. Track insurance exists to minimize risk. If I ever bring the ZLE to Road Atlanta (assuming you are in the ATL area) I can let you know if you'd like to go for a ride.

However the ZL1 is just a fancied up 6th gen Camaro. It has a lot of bolt-ons but it's NOT a different car. It's the top dog 6th gen Camaro for sure, but it's still just a 6th gen Camaro. That's a fact - not an opinion.

They are legends in their own minds because they bought a SS with a track handling and suspension package. Lol

I was explaining to the dealer why can't i get a ZL1 for 46k. Its literally an SS with a track handling and brake package with a LT4 supercharged.

Hoping to have better luck with the M3..going to test drive a 320 and work my way up to explain how the M3 is literally..
You could of got a ZL1 for about 54k if you shopped around then you would of had to do less explaining to your fellow brothern at the cars -n- coffee.

What are the functional, mechanical differences between the ZL1 and the SS 1LE?

They share the eLSD, the FE4 suspension, tires, brakes, etc. So aside from the Supercharger (functional) and available A10 what are the mechanical differences?

Brakes are from different GM products. ZL1 shares the bigger CTSV brakes where SS 1LE uses ATSV brakes.

Other functional differences: Front fenders, bumper, hood. More coolers due to supercharger. Different interior trim pieces from a 2SS 1LE, different color stitching. Oh different front springs to handle the extra weight. More badging?

Seems to me that some might think they are legends because they got a ZL1....

Geez. This devolved into something I didn't exactly see coming. But you're right, Dave-ROR, the rationale is indeed real to me and frankly, having to justify it over and over is a large part of the reason why I decided it was just easier on my part to jump ship; much akin to what I've done in this thread repeatedly.

I'm going to hang out here nonetheless. I've got folks PM'ing me about my old 1LE to ask questions about it and I'm also interested to see if someone in the forums ends up purchasing it. It'll be a way I can continue to follow the vehicle to a degree and hopefully see it continue its progress.

I've bolded the things that are either cosmetic, not a functional upgrade, or part of the Supercharger system.

They are essentially the same car, but one has SC and old man wheels.

USAFS- Great buy, great car. I hear you... I' m 64 and driving a 17' SS M6. I enjoy the the car for its handling, poise, etc. But i get the looks from the youngsters -(hehe everyone is younger than me)- when travelling Woodward in the Camaros and Mustangs with modified exhausts. Mine is stock-OEM w/ NPP, may put a cam....want to have some lope...

Yeah the interior stuff isn't functional. I'd argue that the fenders and bumper are. One provides more cooling, then other provides better paint protection from the wide tires. You can call that cosmetic I guess but it serves a function. The hood has more heat extraction which I'd also call functional.

Not sure what you meant by "old man wheels". Either way both are still just a base Camaro with different bits bolted to them.

This. They're all 6th gen camaros, simply put, SS 1le's have some handling extras over SS's, zl1's have some power extras on top of that, and the zl1 1le's have even more handling & aero over that.

At the end of the day, as great as they may be, they're all based on the same 20k rental car. They're not Ferraris or even a Corvette.

No need for elitism, unless we're shifting on v6's and i4's..... jk obviously lol.
