removing smell
I just got into an '18 zl1, alcantara and all.
the previous owner apparently loved the febreeze air fresheners and this car smells so strong, that I smell like it when I get out of it even after a short drive. other than the obvious remedies like replacing the air filter and baking soda on carpet and whatnot, does anyone have any tricks or stuff maybe not everyone knows that works for you? I mean obviously this isn't as bad as a fish smell or raw ass, but I don't like being punched by febreeze everytime I get in the car. |

Leaving it in the hot sun with the windows down all day should help. Just going to take some time.

If you have an enclosed garage you could leave the windows down and that might help to rid the car of the smell too! I can’t stand a unnatural smell in a car or truck either especially a scent that is really noticeable. I had a lady ride in my 2005 Silverado truck and the first thing she said was it smells like an engine in here to which I replied that’s the way a 14 year old truck smells to me!

Mine had a slight sent of smoke when I got it. Only 2k on the car when I got it that person must have never rolled the windows down when smoking. I washed and cleaned everything inside couldn't get rid of it. Changed the cabin air filter haven't smelled any smoke sense. As mentioned above open windows and let the fresh air through but definitely new cabin filter. It takes about 5min to change

Get a bag of charcoal and open it up and leave it inside. Also, replacing the filter will help a lot.

Just get rid of the smell by removing the cloth. I hate the Febreeze smell. I like the new car smell. They must have hated new car smell.

I would change the cabin filter and give the interior a wipe down with water or mild unscented detergent, and leave it in the sun with the windows down.

In the hotel and rental property business we use ozone machines. Nothing beats them for odor removal.

Ozone generators work great in cars, especially for mold and cigarette smoke. 90 pct Of any smells are in the headliner. Worst case, replace that. You only use them a limited amount of time, so they don’t have any problem with rubber or other materials… Follow up with a leather smell spray available you can spray on the mats.

I appreciate all the replies.
I don't have access to a garage other than my parents house, which the smoke in a lot, I'm not willing to exchange one smell for another. I do have a new cabin filter on the way, with charcoal in it (this worked for my previous camaro as well). I'll start with just cleaning and vacuuming everything and leaving charcoal/arm and hammer in it. When we get a nice sunny day when I'm off I'll let it air out with a battery powered fan blowing through it. glen, I may replace the headliner as I have a small dent in the roof that I may attempt a dent repair on, so I'd have to remove the headliner anyways. as far as ozone generators, this is new to me, I will research those. |
