18" tire size
I've got square 18x10 wheels on my V6 LS 1LE and have been running 40 and 45 series tires, which provide close to OE gearing and ride height. I am inclined to get a 30 or 35 series tire next time, to shorten the gearing and lower the car a little. My top candidates are 200TW tires in sizes 275/35/18 or 285/30/18.
I understand I'll get speedometer error, a little lower highway gas mileage, and a firmer ride. That's fine; I have a set of street tires. In terms of track days and autocrosses, are there any downsides to running a smaller diameter tire? Are there any handling issues when running a shorter-than-OE sidewall like the 285/30? |

Those 3Rs are too rich for my blood - plus the lower TW would disqualify me from the SCCA class I like to run in. The Falken interests me, and I am also interested in the Kumho V730 in 275/35 because I am cheap.

As far as tire sidewall height difference
You will have a harsher ride over bumps on the street but you should have quicker steering response with the shorter sidewall. You will also have shorter gearing which could be good or bad depending the the course your on. As far as tires I would choose the RT660s if you want to stay with a 200tw Eric |

Try the Rival 1.5S or a set of RT660s. Either are great tires. Try to fit a 305 on that sucker! You'll thank yourself.
