Question about exhaust part.

Can anyone tell me whats the purpose of that spring there ? Does it open and closes with air flow ? It’s rattling in mine that’s why my concern around it. Thanks.

My car is a 2017 v6

It’s the AFM valves on v6 cars. The v8’s have them electronically controlled while we have them controlled through springs. It’s been known to rattle after a while. You can fix it or replace them with something else. You don’t need them but when your car goes into 4 cylinder mode the exhaust will be different without them

Then I’m about to put metal clamps on those springs, The rattling in my car is unreal. Sounds like an old car specially idling
