From the Texas lemon law, it's 2+ times for a serious safety issue (steering counts for this IMO):

"The Serious Safety Hazard Test
A serious safety hazard is a life-threatening malfunction that substantially impedes your ability to control or operate the vehicle normally, or that creates a substantial risk of fire or explosion. You pass this test if you have taken your vehicle to the dealership two or more times for the repair of a serious safety hazard during first two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, and the problem continues to exist."

Also seems that the 30+ day test is also passed... that's a lemon in Texas, no questions.

Just seeing this. Yeah, In Georgia (where I bought the car) its only 1 failure necessary on anything related to the steering or braking system. I'm unsure why Chevrolet is so dumbfounded about this (I mean their customer service, not their dealer) They are refusing to move forward until a 3rd failure. Even the BBB is stating they need 4 attempts. I've been talking to a few lawyers regarding this to see what I need to do at this point.

On the other side of this, What should I do if they actually "succeed" in fixing the problem? or basically, should I accept this repair or push for a replacement car? and regarding replacements what should I expect at that? Would it be brand new or used with similar mileage?

So I just got off the phone with an attorney. The reason I'm considering this is because the BBB and Chevrolet are not willing to replace even though by law I've already met the number of necessary attempts.

Per the Lawyer, he says he's been working on GM cases for over 20 years and I'm likely not going to get a replacement vehicle from them willingly...he will represent me no charge (Chevrolet pays the court fees upon winning or if we dont win I don't pay anything.) but in order to get a replacement vehicle it would likely have to be by judge ruling...now get this...he says the total process can take over a year! ... He said what will likely happen is Chevrolet will offer me a settlement (money) for the downtime and inconveniences long before that happens.

I went ahead and proceeded for the replacement anyway...

Opinions?

man I remember you just getting the car!!!

mine has had so many issues you wouldn't believe it.
been in 9 different times for a total of 24 days in the shop on repairs. just got the tq converter flushed and it still vibrates at speed.

gm offered me a warranty for the one they wouldn't honor when the rear end was and has been grinding since November. they only had something to offer once they found out I opened a BBB case.

I have all my paper work ready to go but this has just been a huge hassle. love the car to death but man do I the purchase haha

Crazy man. I love my 2SS as well but its spent more down time than my 99 Z28...literally in the period its been down, I've fixed the A/C in my 99 Z28, Replaced the radio, headlight and brake lights, and a new Yellowtop Optima Battery...thats not good... It's been at the shop for over 40 days to this point. I've been fortunate enough not to run into those dreaded torque converter and rear axle problems yet and hoping that never becomes an issue.

I'm very pissed off at GM for this. I've been considering building a video showing the issue and a long explanation of the problems I've been having with them and posting it right on Chevrolet's twitter page. (Honestly I don't use Twitter much and don't even know if I can do that.)

Edit: Btw I just found out Chevrolet's Business Resource Center (where lemon law claims are held)...is right here in Austin.

The 30 Day Test
If your new vehicle has been out of service for repair due to a defect(s) that substantially impairs the use or market value of the vehicle due to defects covered by the warranty for a total of 30 or more days during the first 24 months or 24,000 miles, and the problem still exists. If no comparable loaner vehicle was provided to you by the dealer during this time period, you pass the test.

It is advisable to contact the Lemon Law Section of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) for more specific information and assistance at (888) 368-4689.

Sorry this has happened to you, I hope you can get this remedied. Once that car gets out of the shop send it back to Georgia ASAP!

Ugh, more bad news.

My car was supposed to be done today for the replacement of the Steering Torque Sensor.. Guess what happened..

Chevrolet Customer Service Business Resource Center sent another GM tech requiring them to make the repair (instead of the dealership) and test the car before releasing. No ETA as to when I will get my car back either.

I have a lemon law attorney working on that but he highly doubts Chevy will take it back. I am half suspicious that he doesnt want Chevy to take it back on the account that if I settle for money he will get paid. -- I am contacting the Georgia Consumer Protection unit for Lemon Law. I'm done with this car.

Spoke to the Georgia Consumer Protection Agency Lemon Law division.

In short they say I qualify for the replacement vehicle in just down time alone and nothing else is necessary. They are sending me a form to fill out for the repurchase or replacement of my vehicle to send to GM and if GM doesn't comply then they will step in on my behalf.

I will miss my 2SS but this is more trouble than I can deal with.

Now here's the million dollar question...what should I opt for, repurchase and just focus on my 99 Z28? or replacement and hope I never have anymore issues?

The downfall with the repurchase is - they will likely add depreciation on there and I may still have a car loan without the car.

The downfall with replacement is - This will be my 3rd 6th Gen in less than 3 years with the previous two replaced due to problems too complicated for GM to resolve.

I would skip the Lemon law at this point and go directly to the Lime Law.

Might wanna take a breather and focus on the 99 for a minute. Seems that for whatever reason the new car gremlins have you by the balls.
