Torn between two... Looking for advise

Hey everyone...

I am hoping to hear some opinions and sound advise...

Little over a year ago I bought a new 2018 Camaro LT with V6.
I was considering a used SS as could not afford new, but since really love the new car feel, full warranty etc went with a new V6.

I was originally very impressed with the 335 HP on a V6 as I used to own a 2002 Mustang SVT Cobra before with 320 HP.
Considering that, I figured 335 HPs will be plenty.... I was mistaken...

I am now in a better financial situation than a year ago and can afford a new SS, however, I am debating to either do that (still decent money loss on trading my existing vehicle) or installing a Procharger in my existing car.

(New SS north of $10.000. Pro-charger - $7000 including install and tune)

I love my current car and I have invested a good amount of money, time and personal labor in mods and upgrades.
Cai, catback exhaust with performance mufflers, large throttle body, ZL1 style spoiler, plasti-dipped rims, rear taillight blackout molds, racing stripes and carbon-fiber look roof + several few more smaller misc. things like black bowties etc...

I really dont want to get rid of it to buy new SS and start all over again with modding, but I want more power.

with procharger at 7 PSI my v6 will push 525+ HP, which I understand is pretty safe setting for this engine.
525 hp is plenty for me as I mainly drive in the city and it is my everyday driver.
I will probably never use full 525...
+cheaper gas and better mileage, cheaper insurance, cheaper registration.

My concern is how really does it affect the engine's life, will it shorten the life of my car and what will it do to a warranty..
(Dealer said it will void the warranty, but the same dealer told me that a CAI will do the same, which is a lie)

...or should I just go with a new SS... I really hate losing all the money in the upgrades and trade in...

What's your opinion?

Image below is before the plasti-dipped rims and before ZL1-style spoiler.

v8 with a warranty. procharger going to require a tune and will void warranty. Plus, your not going to find many people who are going to recommend procharging a v6 as it just isn't very cost effective. most the visual mods you can carry over to an SS

Obviously there is no right or wrong answer here, but on a daily driver I'd want a warranty. Simple as that

As mentioned, if warranty is a concern you'll void it by boosting it. As with all else, any time you start putting more into mods, you're going to sacrifice reliability. You're also going to have a lower ceiling than the V8 will and it will be more expensive getting there. Cheap, Reliable, Fast... pick 2, you'll lose the other.

I was in the same boat as you. I had a 2010 2LT. I ended up supercharging it. Fun car, but had quirky reliability issues here and there. e.g., the power steering reservoir line didn't feed the pump well and burned through a pump. A couple of the NGK plugs shit the bed on me. Started getting more blow-by and had to keep on top of the catch can more diligently. Nothing that was deal breaking, just annoying. This was the old IPF kit, not the Overkill kit that is a much nicer piece of work. It also didn't have the torque the V8 did. I ended up removing the supercharger and traded up to a gen6 SS and haven't looked back.

Both are good, just depends on goals and expectations. And no matter what anyone says, you'll probably lose some reliability in the process. How much depends on how much you stress the limits of the engine. Happens on V8's too so it's something to keep in mind.

Personally I would get an SS,

As mentioned the warranty is enough reason, however with the incentives out there on new cars that 3 thousand spread may not even exist.

I would also opt for warranty, although modifying can be fun with great results, but so much nicer to just go back to a dealer and say "fix this!" when there is an issue, plus....V8!

First of all, to the forums, Mech 1000

Let me join the choir of those that suggest an SS or ZL1 upgrade. Even though you can make the V6 competitive with a stock V8, it will take a lot of money and leave you with no warranty plus an engine streched very-very far. Check out other members' posts in the LGX forums who have walked this path already before you make a decision.

One more thing, you will still not have the neck-jolting low end torque that the V8 is famous for, the V6 revs higher and gives you extra hp up top, but it won't feel as powerful down low. Depending on what you want, this may or may not be what you desire.

I had a 6th gen V6 (a 2LT), so I know how your car feels... the V8 is simply a different animal, and then some with a supercharger.

If you boost the V6, you will not only reduce its reliability, but you will also have more load on the rest of the drive train and reduce its life. And when you drive it and, you will also want bigger brakes. Combine that with loss of warranty and you see that the initial lower cost of the pro-charger.

OP sell (CarMax) or trade your V6 for a new LT1. With dealers hurting for business some have scored a base LT1 for around $30K. I would not put a SC on the V6 unless you are sure you will keep it for a long time.

Also understand the economy will be tanking most likely at least through the fall. Will you be working? But then maybe $$ are not a big concern for you. If so get the V8 Camaro and enjoy driving just to take a ride in the summer. Social distance will also be around that long or longer.

I agree with Mark(Fraxum) to buy an LT1 Camaro! It’s a lower cost V8 alternative to the 1SS or 2SS and like he said you may score a good deal on one in due time when hopefully everything gets started going again. Car dealers are hurting right now and will be willing to get the new cars moving off the lots soon! I am in agreement with everyone else that it wouldn’t be a good move to procharge your V6 and I personally think you will enjoy a V8 much more!

How would the fuel injectors in the V6 support more?
